Ethan Winters is the protagonist of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. He is an ordinary man who is thrust into the events of the game when he goes to search for his missing wife, Mia. It is later revealed that Ethan has the ability to regenerate, which is why he was able to come back from the dead after being killed by Jack Baker. Regeneration is a process where the body can regrow lost or damaged tissue. This ability is similar to that of the creature from The Thing, which is also made up of fungal cells that express human genes. However, Ethan’s regeneration is a bit of a mystery. He is unable to regenerate limbs, but somehow regenerated a heart and was moving without one. He was also able to get stabbed and hand horrified, but didn’t regenerate his 2 fingers.
It is noted that while Ethan’s regeneration is not as clean or efficient as Sherry’s, he has shown the ability to regrow limbs and attach them back on. It is also mentioned that endurance-wise, Sherry is stronger than Ethan.
Ethan’s and Mia’s dormant infections in RE 8
Ethan and Mia have both been infected with the Eveline virus, but it is unclear whether or not they still have the virus by the time Resident Evil 8 comes around. It is possible that they were cured off-screen, but it is also possible that they still have the virus, which would explain Ethan’s hallucinations and Mia’s regeneration powers.
Is Ethan Winters really dead? An analysis of his fate in Resident Evil Village
Ethan Winters may be dead at the end of Resident Evil Village, but there are regenerate powers that could bring him back. He was seen moments before his death, with his regenerative power shut down during the Mother Miranda fight. However, the game ends with a title card that says, “The father’s story is done.” this would indicate that Ethan might be dead and not coming back to the franchise.
