The Resident Evil Village trailer shows that re8 will break with some of the series’ traditions.
The enemies you spend most of the game fighting are fairly slow, not very threatening and usually only dangerous in numbers.
What’s brand new for Resident Evil Village, however, is this thing that really looks like a real werewolf.
Obviously, this is Resident Evil and not a horror movie, so it might have something to do with a virus or a parasite or a mould. And not an actual person who turns into a werewolf during a full moon. But the tattered clothes tell us it was once a person, and that’s scary stuff. And, judging by the speed at which it moves outside the house, it would be a real nightmare if we could fight it.
There will be other enemies in the game that will be a little more familiar from what we’ve seen in the trailer.
First we have a very scary looking coven of witches who seem to have bug powers similar to the matriarch of the Baker family, marguerite. Then we get a brief glimpse of a silhouetted figure clutching a huge hammer. He is also flanked by what looks like a human or near-human enemy, holding agricultural equipment.
Finally, and arguably the biggest deviation of the series, could these be ninjas, obviously not.
As you’d expect from a game called Resident Evil Village, re8 has a village, though this isn’t the first game to use this setting. Judging by the look of the village in the Resident Evil Village trailer, we can expect a rural setting similar to the one in Resident Evil 4, though if the currency on the inventory screen in the developer video is to be believed, it’s now set in Romania, not Spain.
Even so, the dilapidated farmhouses, barren fields and abandoned produce all give the impression that normal life has long since been abandoned. It’s like Leon’s first experience of the village in Resident Evil 4.
However, what’s very different in Resident Evil Village is that not all the villagers seem to have turned into mindless ganados like they did in re4. In fact, there are a few locals who seem completely normal, except for the fact that they haven’t fled the creepy, crumbling village full of werewolves.
Like this peasant-looking guy
This mysterious lady
But who are they and why are they still here?
Resident Evil Village is very different from what we’ve come to expect from the series, in terms of the environment you’ll be in. Thanks to all this snow.
But this is the first time we’ve seen a snowy environment with the incredible looking, and this level of graphical fidelity will really heighten the horror level. That’s unique to snowy environments, like creepy footprints, red blood on white snow and frozen bodies.
From what we know about the story so far, Resident Evil Village will continue the story of Resident Evil 7’s protagonist Ethan Winters. This is a pretty big break from Resident Evil tradition because , it is unusual for Resident Evil games to have the same protagonist in two consecutive games. There have been a few games back to back where one of the characters you play is Chris Redfield . But never have two games in a row followed the same single character. It’s interesting that Capcom clearly feels there’s more to Ethan’s story that needs to be told, and that it needs to be told now rather than waiting for a few more games to come out.
