And who is Lady D? When she walks into a room, you can’t miss her. Capcom reveals that she’s 9 feet tall in her heels. Throughout the Resident Evil universe, Lady D is one of the tallest characters, even taller than Mr. X, earning the nickname Tall Lady. She definitely has style; she dresses and outfits like old-fashioned royalty, with long dresses, full gloves, black corsages and fancy pears and jewellery.
Speaking of her look, the re8 art director confirmed the vampire design and also mentioned that her look was also inspired by a Japanese urban legend called Hashaku-sama, a tall preppy woman in a white dress with a hat that seemed a bit like slenderman.
Lady D’s attitude seems to have been inspired by Morticia Adams in The Addams Family, and her behaviour seems to have been inspired by Elizabeth Bathory, the real-life 15th century serial killer, a nice lady who wanted to drain the blood of virgins to help keep her young. As Lady D looks pretty good both in what we think of as the 1950s, and 60 years later.
So far there has been a lot of talk about Lady D being a vampire. We’ve seen her sucking blood, possibly drinking it and using it to make her family’s signature drink. But we know she’s not a real vampire and the re producers have confirmed that the game will keep to the traditional lore of the re universe. So the idea of blood is more of a scientific or genetic thing, related to a mold or virus that keeps people young or regenerates them, making more sense of the resident evil.
What Lady D was doing we don’t know for sure. We know she was trying to stop Ethan Winters from finding his kidnapped baby and disrupting some ritual. We know she reports to someone called Mother Miranda.
She has three witches she calls daughters who help her, and her brother, possibly this man.
That’s all we know about Lady D so far, along with some theories about the role she might play in the village, and we’re excited to see what becomes of this fan-favourite character.
