Route 7 (Rivière Walk) is blocked by a sleeping Snorlax until you borrow the Poké Flute. The flute is at Parfum Palace, up Route 6, and you only get it after you help the palace owner find a runaway Furfrou in the garden. Once Snorlax is out of the way, the road runs west to the Connecting Cave. Croagunk is the most common Pokémon in the grass at 35%. Swirlix is the Pokémon X exclusive at 10%, and Pokémon Y has Spritzee in that slot. Apart from that slot and two horde levels, both versions match.

Route 7 map

- Snorlax, asleep on the wooden bridge near the east end. Nothing gets past it until it wakes up.
- Heal Ball, up a narrow path north of the bridge on its east side.
- Connecting Cave, northern mouth.
- Connecting Cave, southern mouth. The Tiny Mushroom and the Persim Berry tree are in the grass south of it.
Getting past the sleeping Snorlax
Snorlax sleeps on the bridge and you can’t walk around it. The Poké Flute isn’t on Route 7. You borrow it at Parfum Palace.
- Take the spur at the east end of Route 7 onto Route 6 (Palais Lane) and follow it north to Parfum Palace.
- Help the owner find the runaway Furfrou in the garden maze. HM01 Cut is in the maze as well, so grab it while you’re there.
- Stay for the fireworks. Afterward the owner agrees to lend the Poké Flute, and his butler hands it to you. It’s a loan, so you don’t keep it.
- Go back to the bridge and give the flute to the man from Shabboneau Castle standing there. He plays it, Snorlax wakes up and attacks right away, so save first.
- Catch it or knock it out. Either way the bridge clears. A Snorlax you knock out or run from comes back after your next Hall of Fame entry.

Snorlax is level 15 in both versions.
What opens after the bridge
With Snorlax gone, the road west opens up. The Battle Chateau is along it, and the two Connecting Cave mouths are at the far west end. The Pokémon Day Care is on Route 7 too. Neither the Chateau nor the Day Care is needed to move on.
Silver Powder near the cave is behind a Cut tree. You pick up HM01 on the same trip as the flute, and Cut works outside battle with the Bug Badge from Santalune City.

Berry Fields, off the east end, is its own area. Its berries and mulch aren’t listed here.
Tall grass: wild Pokémon and rates
The grass table has twelve slots. The first nine are 10% each and the last three are 5%, 4% and 1%. Croagunk holds three 10% slots plus the 5% one, which is where its 35% comes from.
| Pokémon | Rate | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Croagunk | 35% | 12–14 |
| Smeargle | 10% | 14 |
| Volbeat | 10% | 13 |
| Illumise | 10% | 13 |
| Roselia | 10% | 14 |
| Ducklett | 10% | 14 |
| Swirlix (X) / Spritzee (Y) | 10% | 14 |
| Orange Flabébé | 4% | 13 |
| White Flabébé | 1% | 14 |
Spritzee sits in the same slot in Pokémon Y that Swirlix has in X. The rest of the grass table is identical.
Flower beds: which colour gives which Flabébé
The colour of the bed sets the Flabébé form. Yellow beds have Yellow Flabébé and purple beds have Blue Flabébé, each at 30%. Everything else in the two tables is the same.
| Yellow flowers | Rate | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow Flabébé | 30% | 12–14 |
| Smeargle, Volbeat, Illumise, Roselia, Ducklett, Swirlix (X) / Spritzee (Y) | 10% each | 13–14 |
| Croagunk | 5% | 14 |
| Orange Flabébé | 4% | 13 |
| White Flabébé | 1% | 14 |
| Purple flowers | Rate | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Blue Flabébé | 30% | 12–14 |
| Smeargle, Volbeat, Illumise, Roselia, Ducklett, Swirlix (X) / Spritzee (Y) | 10% each | 13–14 |
| Croagunk | 5% | 14 |
| Orange Flabébé | 4% | 13 |
| White Flabébé | 1% | 14 |
Route 7 has no red flower beds, so you won’t find Red Flabébé here.
Horde encounters
A horde is five of the same Pokémon at once. When one starts, the game picks group A, B or C at 60%, 35% or 5%. Psyduck and Roselia swap levels between the two versions.
| Group | Pokémon | Chance | Level |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Hoppip | 60% | 7 in X and Y |
| B | Psyduck | 35% | 7 in X, 8 in Y |
| C | Roselia | 5% | 8 in X, 7 in Y |
Trainers on the route
Tierno and Trevor take on you and your rival in a Multi Battle here. Three Artist trainers with Smeargle also stand along the road: Georgia, the pair Mona & Paolo, and Pierre.
Is Route 7 different in Pokémon X and Y?
Barely. One slot changes: Swirlix in X, Spritzee in Y, at 10% in the grass and in both flower beds. The other difference is in the hordes, where Psyduck is level 7 in X and 8 in Y, and Roselia is 8 in X and 7 in Y.
For the other version’s Pokémon, trade with someone who has the other game over local wireless. Online trading stopped working when the 3DS network shut down in 2024.
Why you can’t find a Pokémon on Route 7
Hoppip or Psyduck never show up alone
On this route both of them only come in hordes of five. Keep walking through the grass until a horde starts.
No Swirlix or Spritzee
Check your version. Swirlix is only in X and Spritzee is only in Y.
The wrong Flabébé colour
The bed decides the form. Yellow flowers give Yellow Flabébé and purple flowers give Blue Flabébé. Orange and White Flabébé can appear in the grass and in either bed, at 4% and 1%.
Something you saw at Berry Fields
Berry Fields is a separate area reached from this road, so whatever you find there isn’t part of the Route 7 tables.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get past the Snorlax on Route 7 in Pokémon X?
Go up Route 6 to Parfum Palace, help the owner find the runaway Furfrou, and borrow the Poké Flute after the fireworks. Bring it back to the bridge and give it to the man from Shabboneau Castle there. He plays it, Snorlax wakes up and battles you, and the bridge is clear once you catch it or knock it out.
Where is the Poké Flute in Pokémon X and Y?
The owner of Parfum Palace agrees to lend it to you after the Furfrou garden puzzle and the fireworks, and his butler hands it over. You give it to the man on the Route 7 bridge, who plays it, so you don’t get to keep it.
Is Swirlix only in Pokémon X?
On Route 7, yes. Pokémon Y has Spritzee in the same slot, at 10% in the grass and the flower beds.
Where do I catch Yellow and Blue Flabébé on Route 7?
Yellow Flabébé is in the yellow beds and Blue Flabébé is in the purple beds, both at 30% and level 12 to 14.
Can Snorlax come back if I knock it out?
Yes. If you knock it out or run, it’s back on the bridge after your next Hall of Fame entry. Saving before the fight is still the quicker way to retry.
Is Berry Fields part of Route 7?
No. You reach it from this road, but its Pokémon and items aren’t in the Route 7 tables.
Is Kalos Route 7 the same as Route 7 in Sun and Moon?
No. This page covers Route 7 in Pokémon X and Y. Alola’s Route 7 is in Sun and Moon and has a different layout and different Pokémon.
