In Pokémon Sun and Moon, use a Leaf Stone on Exeggcute from the Bag. It evolves on the spot into Alolan Exeggutor, the tall Grass/Dragon form. There's no level, Friendship or time-of-day requirement. These two games have only one result for this evolution, so a Leaf Stone never gives you the short Kantonian Exeggutor. The stone shop in Konikoni City on Akala Island sells Leaf Stones for ₽3,000. Exeggcute doesn't appear until Poni Island: it's 10% of the grass encounters on Poni Wilds and Ancient Poni Path and 40% on Exeggutor Island, always at Lv. 40–43. If you only need the Pokédex entry, wild Alolan Exeggutor make up another 20% of the Exeggutor Island grass.
This guide covers the original Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon on Nintendo 3DS and 2DS, with or without updates. The two versions work the same way for everything here: the same grass, the same rates and the same shop. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are separate games with one extra way to get Kantonian Exeggutor, so they have their own section at the end.
Use a Leaf Stone on Exeggcute

- Buy a Leaf Stone at the stone shop in Konikoni City on Akala Island.
- Catch an Exeggcute on Poni Island (see below).
- Open the Bag, pick the Leaf Stone from the Items pocket, and choose Use.
- Pick Exeggcute. It evolves into Alolan Exeggutor right away, and the stone is used up.
Exeggcute can be any level, and you can use the stone anywhere. It doesn't matter where the Exeggcute came from either. One you transferred from X, Y, Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire, or one you hatched from an Egg, still turns into Alolan Exeggutor when you use the stone in Sun or Moon. Exeggcute has no Alolan form of its own, so there's nothing to check before you evolve it.
Where to catch Exeggcute

Exeggcute isn't on Melemele, Akala or Ula'ula. It only lives in three places on Poni, the last island, and all three are tall grass. Sun and Moon have the same tables, and the rate doesn't change between day and night.
| Where | Exeggcute | Levels | Also in this grass | When you can go |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Poni Wilds | 10% | 40–43 | Gumshoos (day) or Alolan Raticate (night) 30%, Pelipper 30%, Granbull 20%, Gastrodon (East Sea) 10% | As soon as you arrive on Poni, next to Seafolk Village |
| Ancient Poni Path | 10% | 40–43 | Same as Poni Wilds | Right after Poni Wilds |
| Exeggutor Island | 40% | 40–43 | Pelipper 30%, Alolan Exeggutor 20%, Gastrodon (East Sea) 10% | After Hapu becomes kahuna, by boat from Seafolk Village |
Poni Wilds and Ancient Poni Path
These two routes come first. You walk through Poni Wilds as soon as you leave Seafolk Village, and Ancient Poni Path is the next route. Exeggcute takes one in ten grass encounters on both, so expect to fight a few Gumshoos, Pelipper and Granbull before one shows up. At night, Alolan Raticate replaces Gumshoos, and the Exeggcute rate stays the same.
Wild Exeggcute at Lv. 40–42 know Sleep Powder, Confusion, Worry Seed and Natural Gift. At Lv. 43, Solar Beam replaces Sleep Powder. Grass-type Pokémon are immune to powder moves, so a Grass-type lead can't be put to sleep. Exeggcute is easy to catch. Its catch rate is 90, twice Alolan Exeggutor's 45, so a Great Ball or Ultra Ball at low HP usually works. About 5% of wild Exeggcute hold a Psychic Seed.
Exeggutor Island

Exeggutor Island is the best place to catch Exeggcute. You go there in the story to find the Sun Flute (Sun) or Moon Flute (Moon). After Hapu becomes Poni's kahuna at the Ruins of Hope, talk to the sea folk's captain in Seafolk Village, and the S.S. Magikarp takes you to the island. The same boat can take you back later.
The tall grass is in a few patches just past the dock. Here Exeggcute is 40% of encounters and wild Alolan Exeggutor another 20%, all at Lv. 40–43, at any time of day. Pelipper and East Sea Gastrodon make up the rest.
If you meet Serperior, Samurott or Emboar
That's Island Scan. Each Poni spot has one QR Scanner Pokémon on one weekday: Serperior Lv. 43 on Exeggutor Island on Thursdays, Samurott Lv. 43 on Poni Wilds on Fridays and Emboar Lv. 43 on Ancient Poni Path on Saturdays. The scan lasts one hour of real time, and catching or knocking out the Pokémon ends it early. See Island Scan in Sun and Moon for the full schedule.
Where to get a Leaf Stone

The stone shop in Konikoni City on Akala Island sells the Leaf Stone for ₽3,000, along with the Fire, Water and Thunder Stones at the same price. There's no limit, and shops buy a Leaf Stone back for ₽1,500. You reach Konikoni City near the end of Akala, before Olivia's grand trial, so you can buy the stone long before you get to Poni.
There's no Leaf Stone on the ground anywhere in Sun or Moon, so the shop is the easy way to get one. Isle Aphun's treasure hunts in Poké Pelago can also bring back Leaf Stones. See Pokémon Sun evolution stones for the other stones and for Poké Pelago.
In these games a Leaf Stone also evolves Gloom into Vileplume, Weepinbell into Victreebel, Nuzleaf into Shiftry and Pansage into Simisage. It doesn't work on Eevee. In Sun and Moon, Eevee becomes Leafeon when it levels up near the Moss Rock in Lush Jungle.
If Exeggcute won't evolve

- Leveling up does nothing. Exeggcute never evolves from a level-up or a Rare Candy, at any level.
- Holding the stone does nothing. If you gave Exeggcute the Leaf Stone to hold, take it back and use it from the Bag.
- "It won't have any effect." You picked a Pokémon a Leaf Stone can't evolve, such as Eevee or an Exeggutor.
- Pressing B won't cancel it. B only stops level-up evolutions. Once you use the stone, Exeggcute evolves and the stone is gone.
- Take off any Everstone. In Sun and Moon a Pokémon holding an Everstone can't use an evolution stone, so take it back first.
- Using the stone in Ultra Space only works during the Ultra Warp Ride in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Sun and Moon have no Ultra Warp Ride, and a Leaf Stone always gives Alolan Exeggutor there.
- Origin doesn't matter. A transferred or hatched Exeggcute evolves the same way as a wild one.
Catch Alolan Exeggutor instead

When you first land on Exeggutor Island, an Alolan Exeggutor ambushes you near Lillie. It's Lv. 40 with Frisk and no held item, and it knows Confusion, Psyshock, Egg Bomb and Wood Hammer. It's a one-time battle, so save before you walk up to Lillie if you want to try for this one.
You don't need it, though. Wild Alolan Exeggutor are 20% of the grass by the dock, at Lv. 40–43. They're harder to catch than Exeggcute (catch rate 45), and Ice moves do four times damage, so leave Ice-type attackers in the box. A caught Alolan Exeggutor and an evolved one count the same: either fills #270 in the Alola Pokédex (#85 in the Poni Pokédex). Exeggcute is #269 (Poni #84). For the rest of the Poni list, see the Alola Pokédex.
What changes when it evolves

| Exeggcute | Alolan Exeggutor | |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Grass / Psychic | Grass / Dragon |
| Ability | Chlorophyll, or Harvest as its Hidden Ability | Frisk, or Harvest as its Hidden Ability |
| Weak to | Bug (4×), Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Ghost, Dark | Ice (4×), Flying, Poison, Bug, Dragon, Fairy |
| Resists | Water, Electric, Grass, Ground, Fighting, Psychic | Water, Electric, Grass (all ¼), Ground |
| Height / weight | 0.4 m / 2.5 kg | 10.9 m / 415.6 kg |
Ability
An Exeggcute with Chlorophyll gets Frisk, which shows the opposing Pokémon's held items when it enters battle. An Exeggcute with its Hidden Ability, Harvest, keeps Harvest. Harvest can restore a Berry after it's used, every turn in harsh sunlight and half the time otherwise.
Moves
Alolan Exeggutor learns Dragon Hammer the moment it evolves. It's a physical Dragon move with 90 power, 100% accuracy and 15 PP. If Exeggcute already knows four moves, the game asks which one to forget, the same as any new move. Its level-up list also has Psyshock at Lv. 17, Egg Bomb at 27, Wood Hammer at 37 and Leaf Storm at 47.
Every wild Exeggcute is Lv. 40 or higher, so if you evolve one right away it skips Psyshock, Egg Bomb and Wood Hammer. Wood Hammer is a 120-power physical Grass move, and it's the best of the three. The Move Reminder in the Pokémon Center on Mount Lanakila teaches any of the three for one Heart Scale each. Leaf Storm still comes by level-up at 47.
Alolan or Kantonian Exeggutor

| Alolan Exeggutor | Kantonian Exeggutor | |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Grass / Dragon | Grass / Psychic |
| HP / Atk / Def | 95 / 105 / 85 | 95 / 95 / 85 |
| Sp. Atk / Sp. Def / Speed | 125 / 75 / 45 | 125 / 75 / 55 |
| Total | 530 | 530 |
| Ability | Frisk, or Harvest (Hidden) | Chlorophyll, or Harvest (Hidden) |
| How to get it in Sun and Moon | Leaf Stone on Exeggcute, or catch one on Exeggutor Island | Trade over local wireless, or Pokémon Bank from an older game |
You can't get Kantonian Exeggutor by evolution anywhere in Sun or Moon, and there are none in the wild. To own one, trade it in from another 3DS over local wireless, or move one from Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire through Pokémon Bank. Pokémon Bank ends service on 25 February 2027 at 7:00 p.m. PST, and it can't be downloaded anymore. 3DS online trading (GTS, Wonder Trade and online Festival Plaza) ended on 8 April 2024, but local wireless trading still works.
Breeding won't get you one either. An Exeggutor of either form lays an Exeggcute Egg, and Exeggcute has only one form, so an Everstone doesn't help. Use a Leaf Stone on the hatched Exeggcute in Sun or Moon and it becomes Alolan Exeggutor again.
Sun and Moon vs Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon
| Sun and Moon | Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon | |
|---|---|---|
| Leaf Stone on Exeggcute in Alola | Alolan Exeggutor | Alolan Exeggutor |
| Kantonian Exeggutor by evolution | Not possible | Use the Leaf Stone while in Ultra Space during the Ultra Warp Ride |
| Where Exeggcute lives | Poni Wilds, Ancient Poni Path, Exeggutor Island | Exeggutor Island only |
If you're playing Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon, don't look for Exeggcute on Poni Wilds. For the rest of the differences, see Pokémon Sun vs Ultra Sun.

FAQ
What level does Exeggcute evolve at in Sun and Moon?
None. Exeggcute only evolves when you use a Leaf Stone on it. Wild ones are Lv. 40–43 because that's the level of the Poni grass, not because of the evolution.
Where do you find Exeggcute in Sun and Moon?
Only on Poni Island: 10% of the grass encounters on Poni Wilds and Ancient Poni Path, and 40% on Exeggutor Island, at Lv. 40–43.
Can you get Kantonian Exeggutor in Sun and Moon?
Not by evolution. Trade one in over local wireless, or move one through Pokémon Bank before it closes on 25 February 2027 at 7:00 p.m. PST.
Do you have to use the Leaf Stone on Exeggutor Island?
No. You can use it anywhere in Sun or Moon, and the result is always Alolan Exeggutor.
Why did Exeggcute evolve when I pressed B?
B only cancels evolutions that happen after a level-up. A stone evolution always finishes, and the stone is used up.
Does a transferred Exeggcute become Alolan Exeggutor?
Yes. Where the Exeggcute came from doesn't matter. Using the stone in Sun or Moon always gives the Alolan form.
Can you catch Alolan Exeggutor without evolving one?
Yes. It's 20% of the grass encounters on Exeggutor Island at Lv. 40–43, and catching one fills Pokédex entry #270.
Why is there a Serperior on Exeggutor Island?
An Island Scan is running. Serperior is Poni's Thursday Island Scan Pokémon, and it's only there for one hour after you scan.
