Pokémon Sun and Moon Breeding Calculator: Nursery, IV Odds and EV Planner

The calculator needs JavaScript. The rules it uses are below.

This page has three calculators for Pokémon Sun and Moon. The Nursery checker tells you if two Pokémon can make an Egg at Paniola Ranch, what hatches and how many steps it takes. The IV calculator gives the odds of a target IV spread and nature with a Destiny Knot, Everstone and Power items. The EV planner turns a target spread into vitamins, SOS knockouts and Isle Evelup sessions. All numbers are for Sun and Moon v1.2 on 3DS. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon use the same breeding rules.

Two Pokémon can breed when one is male and one is female and they share an Egg Group, or when one of them is Ditto. Pokémon in the Undiscovered group never breed, and two Ditto cannot breed together. Genderless Pokémon breed only with Ditto. Ditto counts as a different species. “Same species” means the same Pokédex number: Bulbasaur and Ivysaur are different species. The Nursery lady describes each match with her own line; the checker shows the match level and the chance.

How IVs and nature pass down

  • Without a Destiny Knot, 3 different stats are picked at random. Each one copies that stat’s IV from the father or the mother (50/50). The other stats get a random IV from 0 to 31.
  • With a Destiny Knot on either parent, 5 stats are picked instead of 3. The Knot does not copy the holder’s IVs. It picks 5 of the 12 IVs from both parents.
  • A Power item (Power Weight, Bracer, Belt, Lens, Band, Anklet) makes its stat one of the picked stats, taken from the holder. If both parents hold one, only one of them works, chosen at random.
  • An Everstone passes the holder’s nature every time. If both parents hold one, each parent has a 50% chance.
  • Hyper Training does not change real IVs. Eggs inherit the parent’s original IVs.

EV numbers the planner uses

  • Each stat holds up to 252 EVs, and a Pokémon holds 510 in total.
  • A vitamin (HP Up, Protein, Iron, Calcium, Zinc, Carbos) gives 10 EVs. It cannot take a stat above 100 EVs.
  • A Power item adds 8 EVs in its stat for every Pokémon defeated. Pokérus doubles the total. After an SOS ally has been called, knockouts give double EVs again. A 1-EV Pokémon with all three gives 36. With EXP. Share, the base EVs reach the whole party, but each Pokémon’s own Power item and Pokérus apply only to it. EVs above 252 in a stat are dropped, so the last knockout may go over.
  • Isle Evelup on Poké Pelago gives 1, 2 or 4 EVs per 30-minute session at rank 1, 2 or 3. Poké Beans cut a session to 15 minutes.
