OoT Silver Gauntlets: Where to Get Them and Why Young Link Can’t Use Them

Where to get the Silver Gauntlets in Ocarina of Time 3D: the chest on the Desert Colossus statue’s hand, why you must find them as a child but use them as an adult, what they lift, and every block and boulder they open.

Where do you get the Silver Gauntlets?

The Silver Gauntlets are in a chest outside, on the right hand of the Desert Colossus statue. You find them as a child, after you finish the child half of the Spirit Temple. You use them as an adult, to push and lift things you could not move before.

How to get them, step by step

  1. Learn the Requiem of Spirit. The game’s text describes it as a melody that “will lead a child back to the desert.”
  2. Play the Requiem as a child. You arrive at the Desert Colossus as a child.
  3. Go into the Spirit Temple from the desert. The message at the hole asks you to go through “this tiny hole” to get the gauntlets. Crawl through.
  4. Clear the child half of the temple. The fight at the end is the child Iron Knuckle.
  5. Open the chest on the statue’s right hand. It is outside the temple, back in the Desert Colossus.
  6. Grow up. The gauntlets work only as an adult. As a child, pull the Master Sword from its pedestal in the Temple of Time to become adult. Putting it back returns you to child.

Why won’t they work yet?

The game tells you when you open the chest:

“You found the Silver Gauntlets! If you wore them, you would feel power in your arms, the power to lift big things with A! But these gauntlets won’t fit a kid... Plus, you promised to give them to Nabooru. You should keep your word...”

A child cannot wear them, so you have to come back as an adult. If a silver block still won’t move after that, check these:

  • You are still a child. Giant blocks need an adult with strength level 2.
  • You only have the Goron’s Bracelet. The bracelet is strength level 1. It cannot push the giant Gerudo blocks.
  • You are looking at the wrong block. Black pillars need the Golden Gauntlets, not the Silver ones.

What the strength levels let you do

The Silver Gauntlets are a strength upgrade, not a button item. The Gear screen shows them as your strength, and each level unlocks more things to lift and push.

Strength levels and what they move
StrengthItemWhat it lifts or pushes
1Goron’s BraceletBomb flowers and large push blocks
2Silver GauntletsSilver boulders and the giant Gerudo blocks
3Golden GauntletsBlack pillars (heavy blocks)

The Silver Gauntlets open the big doors and the big boulders. They do not move the black pillars outside Ganon’s Castle.

Where do you need the Silver Gauntlets?

Where the Silver Gauntlets are needed
PlaceWhat you need to moveNotes
Spirit Temple (adult)Giant Gerudo blocks at the temple entranceThese open the adult half of the temple.
Gerudo Training GroundA giant block in one roomIn the standard version, the block hides an optional small key. The Ice Arrows do not need it.
Desert ColossusA silver boulderThe boulder sits on a grotto entrance.
Gerudo ValleyA silver boulderLift the boulder with the Silver Gauntlets.
Zora’s FountainA silver boulder (adult Link)Lift the boulder and follow the hidden path below. A Gold Skulltula is there at night.

Are the Silver Gauntlets in the Gerudo Training Ground?

No. The Gerudo Training Ground does not give you the Silver Gauntlets. Its giant block needs them, but the Ice Arrows are the prize for that dungeon.

What are “silver hands” and the “power of silver”?

These are hints in the game’s text. One says “One with silver hands shall move a giant block!” and another says “return here with the power of silver from the past.” Both point at the Silver Gauntlets.

Silver vs Golden Gauntlets

The Golden Gauntlets are the next level up. They lift the black pillars, including the one outside Ganon’s Castle that hides the Great Fairy’s fountain. In the vanilla game, the Golden Gauntlets are the reward from the Shadow Trial in Ganon’s Castle. In the Master Quest dungeons, they come from the Spirit Trial instead.

The Hyrule Warriors “Silver Gauntlets” is a different weapon in a different game and has nothing to do with this page.

Master Quest, 3DS, and other versions

  • 3DS (this page): chest positions, item IDs and in-game text are those of the 3DS game (US version). Strength and block rules are those of the N64 game.
  • Master Quest: in the 3DS Master Quest the world is mirrored, so the Colossus chest is on the left hand.
  • Ganon’s Castle: the Golden Gauntlets come from the Shadow Trial in the vanilla game and from the Spirit Trial in Master Quest.
  • Switch 2 remake: not covered here. The steps may not match.

Quick answers

Can young Link use the Silver Gauntlets?

No. You find them as a child, but the game says they won’t fit a kid. Use them as an adult.

Why won’t the Spirit Temple block move?

Check your age first. Then check your strength. The giant block needs the Silver Gauntlets, not the Goron’s Bracelet.

What is the difference between Silver and Golden Gauntlets?

Silver lifts silver boulders and giant Gerudo blocks. Golden lifts the black pillars.
