Pokémon Sun and Moon each have one free Dusk Stone, on the seafloor off the Poni Wilds beach. It is in the water west of the northernmost dark rock on the sand, near the northern fishing spot. Ride Lapras or Sharpedo over the spot and press A. In Pokémon Moon, a boy at the Malie City flea market also sells one for ₽3,000 after you clear Nanu's grand trial. In Pokémon Sun he sells a Shiny Stone instead. More copies are a rare find on Isle Aphun in Poké Pelago. Use the stone from the Bag on Murkrow, Misdreavus, Lampent or Doublade.
This page covers Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon on 3DS and 2DS, versions 1.0 to 1.2. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon put the field stone in a different place; see the Ultra section. Dusk Form Lycanroc and Dusk Mane Necrozma are Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon features and have nothing to do with this stone.

Where the Dusk Stone is in Sun and Moon
| Source | Game | When | Copies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seafloor off the Poni Wilds beach (Lapras Paddle or Sharpedo Jet) | Sun and Moon | After you reach Poni Island | One, does not come back |
| Malie City flea market, ₽3,000 | Moon only (Sun: Shiny Stone) | After Nanu's grand trial | One |
| Isle Aphun, Poké Pelago | Sun and Moon | Once the isle reaches stage 2 | Repeatable, rare |
No shop restocks the Dusk Stone. The Konikoni City stone shop only sells the Fire, Water, Thunder and Leaf Stones. Pickup never finds one, and no wild Pokémon holds one. Any shop buys it back for ₽1,500.
Moon players can get one before Poni
Nanu's grand trial comes before you sail to Poni, so in Moon the flea-market stone is usually your first. Misdreavus is catchable on Melemele from the start, so you can have Mismagius on Ula'ula.
Sun players wait for Poni
In Sun, the first guaranteed Dusk Stone is the one in the sea off Poni Wilds. The only earlier chance is a lucky find on Isle Aphun.
How to pick up the Poni Wilds Dusk Stone

- From Seafolk Village, cross the wooden bridge north into Poni Wilds.
- Head west to the sandy beach. Three dark rocks sit on the sand.
- Call Lapras (Lapras Paddle) or Sharpedo (Sharpedo Jet) from the Ride Pager and go out into the water west of the northernmost rock.
- Stop near the northern fishing spot, close to the ring of small rocks in the water, and press A over the spot.
There is no Dive in Alola. Riding Lapras or Sharpedo over the spot is enough.
Northern fishing spot, not the middle one
The same water hides a second item near the middle fishing spot, west of the southern rock. That one is a Pearl String. If you picked up a Pearl String, go farther north.
It only happens once
The field Dusk Stone doesn't come back after you take it. The hidden Pearl, Big Pearl and Repeat Ball on the same beach do reappear from time to time, so finding something here later doesn't mean the stone is back.
Buying one at the Malie City flea market (Moon)

The Malie Community Center is on the north side of Malie City, next to the library and on the west side of Malie Garden. Go down the hallway past the sitting area. The flea market is the room with two long tables.
After you clear Nanu's grand trial, a boy there offers to sell you his Dusk Stone for ₽3,000. He has only one and won't lower the price. In Sun, the same boy sells a Shiny Stone for ₽3,000.
He talks about the stone but won't sell it
- You haven't beaten Nanu yet. Before the grand trial he only says he found a stone and has nothing to use it on. Come back after the trial.
- You don't need to show him a Pokémon. He mentions Doublade and Murkrow because he doesn't own one. You don't need to bring one, and you don't need a Darkinium Z.
- You're playing Sun. His stone is a Shiny Stone, and it never changes to a Dusk Stone.
- Not enough money or a full Bag. He refuses the sale if you can't pay ₽3,000 or carry the stone.
Getting another Dusk Stone

Poké Pelago opens after Kiawe's trial. On Isle Aphun you send Pokémon from your boxes into a cave to find items:
- Developing Isle Aphun takes 30 Pokémon in your boxes and 30 Poké Beans. Stage 1 only has the Path for Odd-Shard Hunting.
- Stage 2 takes 45 Pokémon and 90 Poké Beans. It opens the Path for Brilliant-Stone Hunting and the Path for Interesting-Item Hunting. Both can return a Dusk Stone.
- Each trip lasts 24 hours. Poké Beans in the isle's crate make the timer count down twice as fast. A trip brings back 2, 4 or 6 items depending on the isle's stage.
- On the Brilliant-Stone path, the Fire, Water, Thunder, Leaf, Ice, Sun and Moon Stones are common. The Shiny, Dusk and Dawn Stones are rare, so plan on several trips.
Changing the 3DS date to speed up Pelago was blocked in version 1.2. You can also trade a Dusk Stone over local wireless with a second 3DS. Online trading through the GTS and Wonder Trade ended in April 2024.
What the Dusk Stone evolves in Sun and Moon

| Use on | Becomes | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Misdreavus | Mismagius (Alola #067) | Hau'oli Cemetery, Melemele, at night (30%, Lv. 7–10) |
| Murkrow | Honchkrow (Alola #278) | Vast Poni Canyon grass, day or night (10%, Lv. 41–44) |
| Lampent | Chandelure | Litwick from Island Scan, Saturday on Melemele (Lv. 10); Lampent at Lv. 41 |
| Doublade | Aegislash | Honedge from Island Scan, Wednesday on Akala (Lv. 23); Doublade at Lv. 35 |
Misdreavus and Murkrow
Misdreavus appears in the grass of Hau'oli Cemetery only at night, in both games. Pokémon Moon's clock runs 12 hours apart from your 3DS clock, so Moon players look for it during the real-world daytime. In the regular wild, Murkrow is only in the grass at Vast Poni Canyon, at any time of day. It can also turn up earlier as a visitor on Isle Abeens in Poké Pelago, from the start of the game. Touch a visitor to have it join your boxes. Mismagius and Honchkrow both count toward the Alola Pokédex.
Lampent and Doublade
Litwick and Honedge aren't in any regular encounter table in Sun and Moon. You can only meet them through Island Scan: Litwick on Saturday in Hau'oli Cemetery and Honedge on Wednesday in the Akala Outskirts. The Island Scan guide covers how to get the 100 QR points you need. Litwick evolves into Lampent at level 41, and Honedge into Doublade at level 35. Chandelure and Aegislash aren't in the Alola Pokédex.
Should you wait before using it?
Mismagius, Chandelure and Aegislash learn no new moves by leveling up after they evolve, and none of the four learns a move at the moment of evolving. Lampent learns Shadow Ball at 53 and Overheat at 69, which Chandelure never learns by level-up. Misdreavus learns Shadow Ball at 41. If you'd rather not wait, TM30 Shadow Ball is on Route 14. Aegislash's King's Shield and Sacred Sword, and Mismagius's Mystical Fire and Power Gem, can be taught by the Move Reminder in the Mount Lanakila Pokémon Center for one Heart Scale each. Honchkrow still learns Night Slash at 55 and Dark Pulse at 75.
The stone won't have any effect

- Use it from the Bag. Open the Items pocket, pick the Dusk Stone and choose Use. Giving it to a Pokémon to hold does nothing.
- Evolve Litwick and Honedge first. The stone works on Lampent and Doublade, not on the first stage.
- Only four lines use it. Leveling Misdreavus or Murkrow never evolves them, and Rockruff, Lycanroc and other Pokémon can't use it. Lists from newer games add no extra species to Sun and Moon.
An Everstone blocks stone evolutions in Sun and Moon, so take it off the Pokémon before using the stone. Once the evolution starts, pressing B won't stop it, and the stone is used up. On an unpatched 1.0 or 1.1 cartridge, using an evolution item when it is the last item in the Bag can crash the game. Version 1.2 fixed this, so update the game if you still can.
Sun and Moon vs Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

| Sun / Moon | Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon | |
|---|---|---|
| Poni Wilds Dusk Stone | Under the water near the northern fishing spot | On land, above the ledge near the Seafolk Village entrance |
| Flea-market stone | Dusk Stone in Moon, Shiny Stone in Sun | Dusk Stone in Ultra Moon, Shiny Stone in Ultra Sun |
| Murkrow | Vast Poni Canyon | Hau'oli Cemetery, at night |
| Misdreavus | Hau'oli Cemetery, at night | Poni Meadow, at night |
The ledge near Seafolk Village is the Ultra games' spot; in Sun and Moon nothing is there. The Sun vs Ultra Sun comparison lists the other changes.
