Pokémon Sun and Moon list 302 Pokémon in the Alola Pokédex, from #001 Rowlet to #302 Marshadow. Both games use the same list in the same order. To finish it, you need 300 owned. The last two entries, Magearna and Marshadow, are Mythicals and aren't required. The list also splits into four island Pokédexes: Melemele has 120 Pokémon, Akala 130, Ula'ula 130 and Poni 100. There's no National Pokédex on the cartridge. If your #024 is Buneary rather than Pichu, you're looking at the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon list, which has 403 entries.
This page covers Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon on Nintendo 3DS and 2DS. Updates 1.1 and 1.2 only fixed bugs, so the list is the same on every version. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon number their list differently, so don't use these numbers there.

All 302 Pokémon in order
Every Alola Pokédex entry in Sun and Moon, by Alola number. To mark what you own and filter by island, game and starter, use the Alola Pokédex checklist, which also gives a way to get each Pokémon.

How to read the list
The No. column is the Alola number your Rotom Pokédex shows. A Pokémon can be on more than one island list, but it only has one Alola number. "Version" marks the 30 entries you can only catch in one game. The Counts column is "No" only for Magearna and Marshadow, the two entries you don't need for 300.
Oricorio's type depends on its style. The list shows Baile Style, which is Fire/Flying. Pom-Pom Style is Electric/Flying, Pa'u Style is Psychic/Flying and Sensu Style is Ghost/Flying. Eighteen entries are Alolan forms, like Alolan Raichu at #026 and Alolan Vulpix at #253. Only the Alolan form is listed, but any form of a species fills its slot. For example, a Kantonian Vulpix from Pokémon Bank still registers #253. That also goes for Midday or Midnight Lycanroc and every Oricorio style.
Only owned Pokémon count toward 300. Battling a Pokémon or scanning its QR code registers it as seen. That fills in its entry, but it doesn't count. The completion guide covers seen and owned in detail.
The list is grouped by island

The list is grouped roughly by where each Pokémon first appears, in the order you visit the islands. Evolution families stay together, so some evolutions come long before you can get them. For example, #029 Vikavolt only evolves at Vast Poni Canyon, and #130 Glaceon at Mount Lanakila. Use the numbers to find a Pokémon, not as a catching order.
| Alola No. | What's there | Starts with |
|---|---|---|
| #001–#119 | Pokémon first found on Melemele | Rowlet |
| #120–#202 | New on Akala | Lillipup |
| #203–#205 | Type: Null, Silvally, Zygarde | Type: Null |
| #206–#257 | New on Ula'ula | Trubbish |
| #258–#284 | New on Poni | Snubbull |
| #285–#288 | Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu, Tapu Fini | Tapu Koko |
| #289–#302 | Cosmog line, Ultra Beasts, Necrozma, Magearna, Marshadow | Cosmog |
Island lists overlap, and 17 are on none

Your Pokédex also has four island lists, with their own numbers. Many Pokémon are on several islands. For example, Pikipek is on all four. The island lists add up to 480, but they only cover 285 different Pokémon.
The other 17 are on no island list. They are Type: Null, Silvally, Zygarde, Cosmog, Cosmoem, Solgaleo, Lunala, the seven Ultra Beasts, Necrozma, Magearna and Marshadow. So finishing all four island lists still leaves gaps in the full list.

Everything else is in both games. Moon's clock also runs 12 hours off your system clock. So a Pokémon that only appears at night in Sun shows up in Moon during the real-world day. That changes when you can catch it, not whether it's in your game.
Slots one cartridge can't fill
With one save file and only what the game itself offers, one Sun or Moon cartridge can reach 269 of the 300 slots. The other 31 entries need a trade with another player. That's 31 Pokémon, not 31 separate trades. That's 15 for the other game's exclusives, 6 for the two starter lines you didn't pick, and 10 for evolutions that only happen by trade: Slowking, Alakazam, Machamp, Gigalith, Milotic, Magmortar, Porygon2, Porygon-Z, Electivire and Scizor.
Four more trade evolutions don't need a trade with another player. Gengar can come to help in SOS battles in the Abandoned Thrifty Megamart. Politoed can come to help in SOS battles in Malie Garden, at night while it's raining. Trevenant can visit Isle Abeens in Poké Pelago. And the Graveler you get in a trade in Tapu Village evolves into Golem as soon as the trade ends. The "Needs a trade" filter in the Alola Pokédex checklist shows your 31. The completion guide explains how to trade on a 3DS now that online trading has ended.
This isn't the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon list

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have a larger Alola Pokédex with 403 entries. New Pokémon are added in the middle of the list, so most numbers don't match. For example, #024 is Pichu in Sun and Moon but Buneary in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. If the numbers in a guide don't match your game, check which list it uses. See Pokémon Sun vs Ultra Sun for the other differences.
Pokémon you won't find here
Island Scan lets you catch Pokémon from outside Alola, like the Johto starters. They don't have Alola numbers, so they never count toward 300. The Island Scan guide lists them. There's also no National Pokédex mode in Sun and Moon. Pokémon from earlier games can still move in through Pokémon Bank, but only if it's already installed on your 3DS. They only count toward 300 if their species is on this list.
Sun and Moon Pokémon list FAQ
How many Pokémon are in Pokémon Sun and Moon?
The Alola Pokédex lists 302 Pokémon, #001 Rowlet to #302 Marshadow. You need 300 owned to finish it, because Magearna and Marshadow aren't required.
Do Sun and Moon have the same Pokédex?
Yes. Both games list the same 302 Pokémon in the same order. Each game has 15 exclusives that you need to trade for.
Do I need all 302 for the Shiny Charm?
No. The Game Director in the GAME FREAK office in Heahea City gives you the Shiny Charm at 300 owned, so you can skip Magearna and Marshadow.
Is there a National Pokédex in Sun and Moon?
No. The cartridge only has the Alola Pokédex and the four island lists.
Why don't my Ultra Sun numbers match this list?
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon use a different 403-entry list with new Pokémon added in the middle, so the numbers shift. For example, #024 is Buneary there and Pichu in Sun and Moon.
Do QR scans or Island Scan Pokémon count?
Scanning a normal Pokédex QR code only marks a Pokémon as seen, and seen doesn't count. The special Magearna event QR code is different, because it unlocks the Magearna gift. Island Scan Pokémon aren't on the Alola list at all.
