Absol Mega Stone in Pokémon X and Y: Get Absolite from Your Rival

Absol's Mega Stone in Pokémon X and Y is Absolite. Calem or Serena gives it to you in Kiloude City after the Hall of Fame, the TMV Pass and one Battle Maison battle. It isn’t an 8 PM sparkle.

In Pokémon X and Y, Absol’s Mega Stone is Absolite, and you get it from your rival in Kiloude City. Become the Champion, enter the Hall of Fame, and take the TMV Pass from Professor Sycamore at Lumiose Station. Ride to Kiloude City, complete at least one battle at the Battle Maison, then beat Calem or Serena in the north of the city. They give you Absolite after that first win. It isn’t an 8 PM sparkle, and you can’t buy it.

This guide covers Pokémon X and Pokémon Y on Nintendo 3DS and 2DS, up to the final update (version 1.5). The steps are the same in both games. If you’re on Legends: Z-A or another game, see the table below.

How to get Absolite in Pokémon X and Y

Absolite is a one-time gift: the rival hands it over after you win your first battle against them, once per save. In order:

  1. Become the Champion: beat the Elite Four and enter the Hall of Fame. None of the later steps open before that.
  2. Get the TMV Pass. After the credits, your mom tells you Professor Sycamore is waiting at Lumiose Station on North Boulevard. Sina and Dexio upgrade your Pokédex there, then Sycamore gives you the pass.
  3. Ride to Kiloude City. Scan the pass at the orange machine on the platform. The train takes you south to Kiloude City, which you can only reach with the pass.
  4. Complete at least one battle at the Battle Maison, the large building in the center of the city. That’s what makes the rival appear.
  5. Find the rival in the north. Calem or Serena waits for you once a day in the northern part of the city, beside the fenced pond.
  6. Win the battle. Absolite goes straight into your Bag, in the Items pocket.

X and Y work the same here. Only the rival’s team changes, and that depends on the starter you picked, not the version.

The rival’s team

The rival’s Absol is level 68 and holds Absolite. The rest of the team:

  • Meowstic, level 66
  • Clefable, level 68
  • Altaria, level 67
  • An Eeveelution, level 66: Jolteon if you picked Chespin, Flareon if you picked Fennekin, Vaporeon if you picked Froakie
  • The final form of the rival’s own starter, level 70: Delphox, Greninja or Chesnaught, chosen to be strong against your starter

Why you can’t find it

The rival isn’t in Kiloude City

Check three things. First, you must have the TMV Pass and be in Kiloude City, not Lumiose. Second, you must have completed at least one battle at the Battle Maison; the rival doesn’t appear before that. Third, look in the north of the city by the pond, not the center.

You beat them, but there’s no stone in the Bag

Absolite is given only for the first win against the rival. Later battles are rematches. If you already won that first battle, the stone is already in your Items pocket, so check there first.

Camping by the sundial at 8 PM

Absolite isn’t an 8 PM sparkle. The sundial in Anistar City starts to glow at 8 PM for one hour, and it only reacts to the other Mega Stones buried around the region. Absolite comes from the rival in Kiloude City, long before you visit the sundial. Sycamore upgrades your Mega Ring at the sundial after you beat the rival once.

How to Mega Evolve Absol

Holding Absolite isn’t enough on its own:

  1. You need the Mega Ring. Korrina gives it to you at the top of the Tower of Mastery, after you earn the Rumble Badge at Shalour Gym.
  2. Absol has to hold Absolite. On any other Pokémon it does nothing.
  3. In battle, pick Mega Evolution before you choose a move. The option only shows up when the first two are true.
  4. Only one of your Pokémon can Mega Evolve per battle.

Trick and Fling can’t move Absolite off Absol, and Embargo doesn’t stop it working. The stone isn’t used up when Absol Mega Evolves, so you can use it in every battle.

What Mega Absol changes

Mega Absol stays pure Dark-type. Its Attack, Special Attack and Speed go up, and its ability becomes Magic Bounce.

Absol’s normal abilities are Pressure and Super Luck, and its hidden ability is Justified. Mega Absol always has Magic Bounce, which reflects some status moves back at the user.

Where to catch Absol in X and Y

If you have the stone but no Absol, catch one on Route 8. It is wild in two spots:

  • Yellow flowers: 20%, at level 13 to 14.
  • Tall grass: 10%, at level 15.

Route 8 (Muraille Coast) in X and Y, between Camphrier Town and Ambrette Town.

The rates are the same in X and Y. The Kalos map shows every grass and flower patch on Route 8. After the Hall of Fame, a Dark-type Friend Safari can also have Absol, at level 30, but only as its third Pokémon. That slot opens once the friend has entered the Hall of Fame and your game has seen them online at the same time through the PSS, now done over local wireless. The other third-slot options are Liepard, Inkay and Sableye, so Route 8 is the reliable choice.

FAQ

Can I get Absolite before the Elite Four?

Not from the rival. The gift needs the TMV Pass, which you get after the Hall of Fame. The only earlier route is a trade: an Absol (or any Pokémon) holding Absolite, sent from another save.

Can I get a second Absolite?

Not from the rival in your save. Later battles are rematches with no stone. To get another one, trade a held Absolite from another save.

Do I need to upgrade the Mega Ring to get Absolite?

No. You receive Absolite from the rival. You need the Mega Ring from Korrina to use the stone in battle, and the sundial upgrade comes later.

Is the Absolite in Legends: Z-A the same stone?

It is the same kind of stone and lets Absol Mega Evolve in Z-A too, but you get it in a different game: in Jaune Sector 6 during Main Mission 09, by beating the Rogue Mega Absol. Absolite Z is a different item, used by Mega Absol Z in the Mega Dimension expansion.
