You can’t catch Diancie in Pokémon Y. It’s a Mythical Pokémon (Central Kalos No. 151), and the game has no normal wild encounter, static encounter or in-game story or NPC gift for it. In X and Y it only came from official Mystery Gift events, mostly in 2014 and 2015 (sources disagree on whether one 2016 Korean event also reached X and Y), and those are long over. Nintendo also shut down 3DS online play on April 8, 2024, so internet Mystery Gift, serial codes and the GTS don’t work anymore. What’s left is to trade one over local wireless from someone who already has it, or move one through Pokémon Bank before the service ends on February 25, 2027 at 7:00 PM Pacific. Carbink doesn’t evolve into Diancie, and Diancite (Mega Diancie’s stone) isn’t in X and Y. Pokémon X works exactly the same way.

| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Can you catch it? | No. No normal wild encounter, static encounter or in-game NPC gift in X or Y |
| How it was given out | Mystery Gift: cinema and store events in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, North America and Europe (2014–2015, plus a disputed 2016 Korean event) |
| Ways that still work | Local wireless trade, a Wonder Card you already received but never picked up, or Pokémon Bank (until February 25, 2027, only if you downloaded Bank before and can still install and use it) |
| Type and ability | Rock / Fairy, Clear Body |
| Evolves from Carbink? | No. Neither evolves |
| Mega Evolution in Y? | No. Diancite is an Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire item |
| Needed for the Oval Charm or Shiny Charm? | No |
Can you catch Diancie in Pokémon Y?
No. Diancie has a Pokédex entry (Central Kalos No. 151), but no grass, cave, Friend Safari zone or story event puts one in front of you. It isn’t in any encounter table, gift or one-time encounter, and no update up to the final Ver. 1.5 added one. The two Pokémon after it in the Central dex, Hoopa and Volcanion, are the same: Mythical and event-only.
That’s why the Kalos Pokédex lists Diancie as “only from a special event.” Its Y Pokédex entry reads: “It can instantly create many diamonds by compressing the carbon in the air between its hands.” The X entry is the one that calls it a sudden transformation of Carbink.
Pokémon X is the same
There’s no Y-only or X-only Diancie. Both versions have the same empty tables, and every 2014 event worked in both. If your game is X, everything on this page applies.
Why Mystery Gift and the old GameStop code do nothing
Diancie came through Mystery Gift, which works in two steps. First, from the title screen, you choose Mystery Gift and receive a Wonder Card, over the internet, with a serial code, over local wireless or by infrared. The card goes into your Card Album. Then you load your save, walk into any Pokémon Center and talk to the delivery girl, who hands over the Pokémon.
Step one is the part that’s gone. Internet Mystery Gift and serial codes needed Nintendo’s 3DS online service, which ended at 5:00 PM Pacific on April 8, 2024. Typing an old GameStop or GAME code now just fails to connect. The Diancie codes had expired well before that anyway; the last serial-code event ended in late 2015. Local wireless and infrared still work on the hardware side, but they only receive a card while an official distribution is running nearby, and no Diancie distribution for X, Y, Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire has run since August 2016.
Check the Card Album first
If you took part in an event years ago, look before you give up. A card you received but never picked up is still waiting, and the pickup needs no internet:
- On the title screen, choose Mystery Gift, then Card Album. (The Mystery Gift option only appears once your save file exists.)
- Look for a Diancie card whose gift hasn’t been collected. The title depends on the event (for example “Diancie Present” in Taiwan or “Diancie Gift” in Hong Kong, and Japanese or Korean titles elsewhere). A card with an uncollected gift can’t be thrown away, so it should still be there.
- Go back, choose Continue, and enter any Pokémon Center.
- Talk to the delivery girl in the blue uniform, standing to the left of the counter. Make sure you have a free party slot first, or she can’t hand Diancie over.
- Save the game.

Don’t mix her up with the girl in red on the right. She hands out Pokémon Global Link deliveries, and with the online service gone she has nothing for you either.
What still works in 2026
| Way | Still works? | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Local wireless trade | Yes | A second 3DS in the same room, with an X, Y, Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire save that has a Diancie |
| Uncollected Wonder Card | Yes | A Diancie card already in your Card Album that you never picked up |
| Pokémon Bank withdraw | Until February 25, 2027 | Bank downloaded before (first-time downloads ended in March 2023, re-downloads still work) and still installable and usable on your 3DS, and a Diancie that has never been withdrawn into Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon. It can be one already in Bank, or one you deposit now from another X, Y, Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire save |
| GTS, Wonder Trade, internet trades | No | Shut down with 3DS online play on April 8, 2024 |
| Internet Mystery Gift or serial code | No | Same shutdown, and every Diancie code expired in 2015 |
| Pokémon HOME | No | HOME can’t send Pokémon back to a 3DS game |
Local wireless trade
This is the main way left. Both players turn on wireless, open the PSS on the lower screen, tap the other player’s icon and choose Trade. Local wireless doesn’t use Nintendo’s servers, so it still works. The other player can be on X, Y, Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire. If the Diancie comes from Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire, take its held item off first: a Pokémon holding Diancite, or any other item X and Y don’t have, can’t be traded into X or Y.
Move it through Pokémon Bank before February 25, 2027
Bank works in both directions with X, Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, so it isn’t only for a Diancie you stored years ago. If your own Diancie sits on another X, Y, Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire save, deposit it from that game now and withdraw it into Y. A Diancie already in Bank can be withdrawn the same way. Nintendo ends Pokémon Bank on February 25, 2027 at 7:00 PM Pacific (11:00 AM on February 26, Beijing time). After that, anything left in Bank and the Bank-to-HOME transfer are gone. First-time downloads of Bank ended in March 2023, so this only works if you downloaded Bank before and can still install and use it. If it’s no longer on your 3DS, you can re-download it from Nintendo eShop, because Nintendo still lets you re-download software you already have. The main limit comes from the official Bank site: once a Pokémon from X, Y, Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire has been withdrawn into Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon even once, it can never go back to a Generation 6 game, even if you deposit it in Bank again. Bank also won’t take held items, so the item stays behind in the game you deposit from.

Why HOME can’t send it back
Moving Pokémon from Bank to Pokémon HOME is one way. The Pokémon Company’s own support page says Pokémon moved into HOME can’t go back to Bank or to a 3DS game. A Diancie already in HOME can go on to Switch games that support it, but not back to Y.
Carbink is not Diancie
Pokémon X’s Pokédex calls Diancie a sudden transformation of Carbink. That’s a story detail, not an evolution. Carbink has no evolution in X and Y, and nothing in the game turns into Diancie, whatever its level, item or friendship. Catching a hundred Carbink only gets you a hundred Carbink.
Carbink lives only in Reflection Cave, the cave between Route 11 and Shalour City, on all four floors (1F, B1F, B2F and B3F). It shows up 10% of the time when you walk around (always level 23), and in 5% of hordes, where one Carbink joins four Roggenrola (level 11). It isn’t in Terminus Cave or the Friend Safari.

| Stat | Diancie | Carbink |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Rock / Fairy | Rock / Fairy |
| Ability | Clear Body | Clear Body, or Sturdy (Hidden Ability) |
| Base stats | 50 / 100 / 150 / 100 / 150 / 50 (600) | 50 / 50 / 150 / 50 / 150 / 50 (500) |
| Height and weight | 0.7 m, 8.8 kg | 0.3 m, 5.7 kg |
| Gender | Genderless | Genderless |
| Egg group | Undiscovered (can’t breed) | Fairy, Mineral |
| Catch rate | 3 | 60 |
| Where in Y | Nowhere | Reflection Cave |
Base stats are in the order HP / Attack / Defense / Sp. Atk / Sp. Def / Speed. Diancie is in the Undiscovered egg group, so it can’t make Eggs, not even with Ditto.

The 2014–2016 events (so you can spot a real one)
Every Generation 6 Diancie distribution that can legitimately end up in X or Y (the ones in the table below) was level 50, came in a Cherish Ball, had Clear Body, and shows “Apparently had a fateful encounter at Lv. 50” on its summary page. The non-Shiny gifts for X and Y (Japan, Taiwan, North America, Europe, Korea and Hong Kong) held a Normal Gem and couldn’t be Shiny. The event records list Diamond Storm, Moonblast, Reflect and Return as their moves.
Each serial-code event has two sets of dates. Stores handed out code cards for a few weeks. The codes themselves could be typed in for longer, until the online redemption window closed. Where sources disagree on dates or games, the table gives both.
| Event | OT / ID | Games | Dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| Japanese movie theaters (local wireless) | えいがかん / 07194 | X, Y | July 19 to September 30, 2014, plus preview days July 6 and 13 |
| Funbox movie ticket exchange, Taiwan (serial code) | MovieTheater / 08274 | X, Y | Codes worked August 29 to October 15, 2014 |
| GameStop, North America (serial code) | OCT2014 / 10274 | X, Y | Code cards in stores October 27 to November 16, 2014. Codes worked October 16, 2014 to February 28, 2015 |
| GAME and other stores, Europe and Australia (serial code) | NOV2014 / 11064 | X, Y | UK GAME stores November 6 to 28, 2014. Codes worked October 23, 2014 to February 25, 2015 |
| Lotte Cinema, South Korea (serial code) | 영화관 / 01155 | Sources disagree: X, Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (Bulbapedia, Project Pokémon) or X and Y only (Serebii) | Started January 6, 2015. End date differs by source: March 31, 2015 (Bulbapedia, Project Pokémon, Pokébip) or May 31, 2015 (Serebii) |
| Nintendo Hong Kong Facebook giveaway (serial code, Japanese or Taiwanese systems) | Universe / 10045 | X, Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire | Codes given out October 15 and 29, 2015. End date differs by source: November 30, 2015 (Bulbapedia) or October 22, 2015 (Serebii) |
| “Hope” Diancie (internet) | Hope / 07245 | Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire only | July 24 to 27, 2015 |
| Pokémon Center stores, Japan (Shiny) | ポケセン / 12125 | Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire only | December 12 to 31, 2015 |
| Pokémon All-Stars Battle, Seoul (Shiny, infrared) | 올스타 / 08136 | Listed for X, Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire by Bulbapedia, but only for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire by Serebii | August 13 and 14, 2016 |
The Hope Diancie and the Japanese Pokémon Center Shiny only went to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, so they reach Y by trade. For the Korean All-Stars Shiny the sources disagree on whether X and Y could receive it directly. A Hope Diancie also knows Dazzling Gleam and Protect instead of Reflect and Return, and holds no item.
Checking a Diancie someone offers you
- Poké Ball: a Cherish Ball. A Diancie in any other ball isn’t one of these Generation 6 event Pokémon, so it can’t have come into X or Y legitimately. (Diancie caught in later Switch games, such as Legends: Z-A, can’t travel back to a 3DS game anyway.)
- Summary page: “Apparently had a fateful encounter at Lv. 50.”
- OT and ID: they should match a known distribution. The table covers the main ones, so an unfamiliar OT isn’t proof of a fake on its own; look it up first.
- Shiny: only the two Shiny events (ポケセン and 올스타) were Shiny. A Shiny OCT2014 or NOV2014 Diancie can’t be real.
Passing these checks doesn’t prove much on its own, because a copied Pokémon looks identical. If someone offers a Shiny OCT2014, or a Diancie in a Poké Ball, it isn’t an official event Pokémon.
The scene after you receive it (and why there’s no stone)
X and Y have a short scene for a Diancie you’ve just received. Two people stop you (“Please wait…”), ask if the Pokémon you just got is the Mythical Pokémon Diancie, and then ask you to give it to their master. Their master turns up, tells them off (“What you can truly value is not something you can get by depriving somebody of a relationship”), congratulates you, and leaves asking the two to keep looking for his own Diancie. Nothing is handed over, and the game doesn’t give you anything for it.
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire continue the story: walk out of a Pokémon Center with an event Diancie in your party, and the same pair comes back and you end up with Diancite. In X and Y the conversation just ends.
Mega Diancie is not in Pokémon Y
X and Y have 30 Mega Stones, and Diancite isn’t one of them. It isn’t in the game’s item list at all, and there’s no Mega Diancie form in X or Y. Mega Diancie arrived with Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Because X and Y don’t know the item, a Diancie holding Diancite can’t even be traded in. The Mega Stones page lists the 30 stones X and Y actually have, and Sablenite is another stone that only exists in the Hoenn remakes.
If Mega Diancie is what you’re after, you need a game that has Diancite, such as Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (with an event Diancie in the party), Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, or Pokémon Legends: Z-A on Switch.
That Looker Bureau method is Legends: Z-A
Since November 6, 2025, Pokémon Legends: Z-A has had an official Mystery Gift for Diancite. After the main story, you go to the Looker Bureau, talk to Mimi, and a side mission ends with a Diancie you can catch. That’s all Z-A, a Switch game that happens to be set in Lumiose City. The Looker Bureau in X and Y runs its own postgame story and has nothing to do with Diancie.
| What | Pokémon X and Y | Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire | Legends: Z-A |
|---|---|---|---|
| Get Diancie today | Trade, an uncollected Wonder Card, or Pokémon Bank | Trade, an uncollected Wonder Card, or Pokémon Bank | Mystery Gift Diancite, then a Looker Bureau mission |
| Diancite | Not in the game | From the Pokémon Center scene with an event Diancie | Mystery Gift |
| Mega Diancie | No | Yes | Yes |
Pokémon GO and the spin-off games can’t send anything to a 3DS game either.
Dex completion: the Oval Charm and Shiny Charm
You don’t need Diancie for either charm. Professor Sycamore gives you the Oval Charm in his Lumiose City lab once you’ve seen every Pokémon in all three Kalos Pokédexes, except Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Diancie, Hoopa and Volcanion. The Shiny Charm needs the whole National Pokédex caught, minus the Mythical Pokémon: Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Diancie, Hoopa and Volcanion.
Why the “2026 glitch” video is a dead end
A YouTube video called “How to get Diancie in Pokemon X and Y! Working Glitch 2026” is dated February 26, 2014, months before the first Diancie event, and its description says it’s “for joke purposes only.” There’s no glitch, tile pattern or secret spot that puts a Diancie in an unmodified game. Third-party tools can alter a save file, but that isn’t an official method and it can break the save. This page sticks to an unmodified game.

FAQ
Can you catch Diancie in Pokémon Y?
No. There’s no normal wild encounter, static encounter or in-game NPC gift for Diancie in Pokémon Y. In X and Y it only came from official Mystery Gift events, mostly in 2014 and 2015.
Does Carbink evolve into Diancie?
No. Carbink doesn’t evolve at all. Pokémon X’s Pokédex calls Diancie a sudden transformation of Carbink, but that’s story, not a game mechanic.
Is Diancie in Pokémon X as well?
Yes, as the same Central Kalos No. 151, and it’s just as unobtainable in normal play. Both versions got the same events, and the same leftover ways work in both.
Does Mystery Gift still work for Diancie on 3DS?
Not for a new one. Internet Mystery Gift ended with 3DS online play on April 8, 2024, and every Diancie code expired in 2015. A card already in your Card Album can still be picked up from the delivery girl in any Pokémon Center.
Can I get Mega Diancie in Pokémon Y?
No. Diancite doesn’t exist in X or Y, and a Diancie holding it can’t be traded in. Mega Diancie needs a game with Diancite, such as Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun and Moon, or Legends: Z-A.
Can Pokémon Bank still move Diancie into Y?
Yes, until February 25, 2027 at 7:00 PM Pacific, if you downloaded Bank before and can still install and use it (re-downloads work, but first-time downloads ended in March 2023). The Diancie can already be in Bank, or you can deposit it now from another X, Y, Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire save and withdraw it into Y. It can’t come back if it was ever withdrawn into Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon.
Do I need Diancie for the Shiny Charm?
No. The Shiny Charm skips the Mythical Pokémon, Diancie included, and the Oval Charm skips Diancie, Hoopa and Volcanion too.
Is the Looker Bureau Diancie quest in Pokémon Y?
No. That’s Pokémon Legends: Z-A on Switch, from November 2025. Looker’s missions in X and Y don’t involve Diancie.
