Pokémon X and Y TM Locations: All 100 TMs and HMs

All 100 TM locations in Pokémon X and Y, with Poké Mart prices, Gym Leader gifts, Battle Maison BP and the HM badge rules.

Pokémon X and Y have 100 TMs and 5 HMs, and every TM is reusable, so you only need one of each. Twenty TMs are sold in four Poké Marts, eight come from Gym Leaders, twelve cost Battle Points at the Battle Maison, and the rest are found on the map or given by people in towns. Rock Smash is TM94, not an HM, and you can use it without a badge. The two games have the same TM list.

Kiloude City opens after you enter the Hall of Fame. Professor Sycamore at Lumiose Station gives you the TMV Pass, which you need to reach it. Its Poké Mart sells five TMs at higher prices. The Battle Maison in the same city is covered further down.

TMs from the eight Gym Leaders

Each Gym Leader gives you one TM after you win the battle. You can’t buy these, so the Gym is the only place to get them.

Why the TM you want isn’t where you looked

Most missing TMs come from one of five causes. Check the list before you walk back and forth.

The Hex Maniac in Anistar City keeps a clock

The Hex Maniac in the Anistar City Pokémon Center gives out one of four TMs, depending on the time on your 3DS. Her TM changes at these times:

Time (3DS clock)TM
04:00 to 10:59TM32 Double Team
11:00 to 17:59TM35 Flamethrower
18:00 to 19:59TM77 Psych Up
20:00 to 03:59TM90 Substitute

To collect all four, talk to her once in each time window. If she has nothing new for you, check the 3DS clock and come back in a window you haven’t used yet.

The Coumarine City quiz gives one TM a day

A quiz in Coumarine City gives one TM per day, and the TM is random. Answer correctly, then come back the next day. The four TMs in the quiz are TM62 Acrobatics, TM63 Embargo, TM92 Trick Room, and TM100 Confide, so you won’t get them in a fixed order.

The Lost Hotel hides two TMs

The Lost Hotel has TM56 Fling and TM95 Snarl. TM56 comes from a Roller Skater at the west end of the south hall, on the Route 16 side, with no skate trick needed. TM95 is an item behind a wall on the Route 15 side. You need Rock Smash, and the 360 and Backflip skate tricks, to reach it.

Field moves gate some TMs

Many TMs need field moves to reach. TM26 Earthquake needs Surf, Waterfall and Strength. TM71 Stone Edge, outside Frost Cavern, needs Surf and Waterfall. TM97 Dark Pulse needs Cut, Surf and Waterfall. The HM badge rules are in the next section. TM79 Frost Breath is in a separate part of Frost Cavern 2F, reached only from the southeast stairs on 3F, and you need a diagonal slide on the ice to reach it. The Frost Cavern walkthrough covers that room.

Info card for TM79 Frost Breath in Frost Cavern, Pokémon X and Y: the room is a separate part of 2F, reached only by the staircase in the far southeast of 3F
The TM79 room is only reachable from the southeast stairs on 3F.

A few TMs sit behind story gates

Several TMs come from story scenes that you can walk past if you aren’t looking for them. The main ones: TM12 Taunt from a Team Flare grunt in Lysandre Labs, TM43 Flame Charge from a worker at the Kalos Power Plant after Team Flare, TM17 Protect at Parfum Palace after you find the runaway Furfrou, and TM54 False Swipe from the female Scientist on 3F of Professor Sycamore’s lab in Lumiose City, after seeing at least 20 different Pokémon in the Central Kalos Pokédex.

The five HMs and their badge rules

HM01 to HM05 are field moves. Each one needs the badge shown below before you can use it outside battle. Rock Smash isn’t an HM in these games, so it needs no badge.

HMMoveWhere you get itBadge for field use
HM01CutParfum PalaceBug Badge
HM02FlyCoumarine CityPlant Badge
HM03SurfShalour CityRumble Badge
HM04StrengthCyllage CityCliff Badge
HM05WaterfallRoute 19Iceberg Badge

Rock Smash is TM94. You get it outside the Ambrette Aquarium in Ambrette Town (where to find Rock Smash), and you can use it on cracked rocks without a badge. The fossil page explains which cracked rocks hide fossils.

Waterfall works in battle without the Iceberg Badge. Out of battle you still need the badge.

Battle Maison TMs and their BP costs

The Battle Maison in Kiloude City sells twelve TMs for Battle Points. You earn BP by winning battles against trainers there, so the Nintendo Network shutdown in 2024 doesn’t affect it. You need the TMV Pass to reach the Maison.

All 100 TMs and where to find them

Use the table to find any TM. The “How you get it” column says whether it is a mart, a Gym Leader prize, a Battle Maison prize, or a pickup or NPC gift on the map. Prices are shown in Poké Dollars for marts and in Battle Points for the Maison. Everything else is free. Each location links to that area on the Kalos map.
