Lumiose City Stone Emporium: What It Sells in Pokémon X and Y

The Lumiose City Stone Emporium sells Fire, Water and Leaf Stones for $2,100. Thunder Stones aren’t here. Mega Stones drop to $10,000 with style.

The Stone Emporium is on Vernal Avenue in Lumiose City. In Pokémon X and Y the cashier sells only three stones: the Fire Stone, Water Stone and Leaf Stone, at $2,100 each. Thunder, Sun, Moon, Shiny, Dusk and Dawn Stones are never sold here. A man in the shop also sells the Mega Stones for the two Kanto starters you didn’t take from Professor Sycamore: the first one during the story, the second after you enter the Hall of Fame. Below 10 Lumiose style he asks $1,000,000, and the price falls to $10,000 at maximum style. You get Charizardite X in Pokémon X and Charizardite Y in Pokémon Y. The Legends: Z-A Stone Emporium is a different shop, and it does sell Thunder Stones.

This page covers Pokémon X and Pokémon Y on Nintendo 3DS and 2DS, updated to version 1.5. None of the update notes mention this shop, and X and Y have the same cashier list. The only version difference is which Charizardite the Mega Stone seller has.

Where is the Stone Emporium in Lumiose City?

It’s on Vernal Avenue, the street that runs from South Boulevard up to Centrico Plaza, between Vert Plaza and Bleu Plaza. Vernal Avenue meets South Boulevard at the south side of the city, next to Professor Sycamore’s lab and between the Route 4 gate and the Route 5 gate.

South Boulevard from above. Come in from Route 4, walk west, and turn north up Vernal Avenue between Vert Plaza and Bleu Plaza.

How to get there from Route 4

  1. Enter Lumiose City through the Route 4 gate. You come out on South Boulevard.
  2. Walk west along South Boulevard, past Vert Plaza and Professor Sycamore’s lab.
  3. Turn north at the sign for Vernal Avenue and walk up the avenue toward Prism Tower.
  4. Go into the Stone Emporium. Friseur Furfrou, the Herboriste and Café Woof are on the same street.

When you can first go in

You can visit on your first trip to Lumiose City, right after Santalune City and Route 4. South Boulevard and Vernal Avenue are the parts of the city that are open at first. A blackout closes off the rest until later in the story, but it doesn’t affect this shop. The cashier sells the same three stones from your first visit to the end of the game.

What the Stone Emporium sells

The clerk at the back counter greets you with “Welcome to the Stone Emporium. We sell various stones,” and then sells exactly three.

Buying more stones won’t add anything to the list. Some Lumiose shops, like Friseur Furfrou down the street, offer more once your style goes up, but this cashier doesn’t. Each purchase here does raise your Lumiose style by 2, which helps with the Mega Stone price below. Stones you don’t need sell back for $1,050 at any shop.

Why there’s no Thunder Stone (or Sun, Moon, Shiny, Dusk and Dawn)

You reach the big stone store with an Eevee and a Pikachu in your party and there’s no Thunder Stone. In Pokémon X and Y, no shop in Kalos sells the Thunder, Sun, Moon, Shiny, Dusk or Dawn Stone. You find them in the field or win them.

StoneWhere to find it in X and YEvolves

Getting more than one

The field stones are one-time pickups. For extras of any stone, including the three the shop sells, use these:

  • Psychic Inver on Route 18. His prize depends on how well you score in his Inverse Battles. A score of 7 to 9 gives a random evolution stone (or an Everstone); 10 or more gives a Rare Candy instead.
  • Secret Super Training. Only Fully Trained Pokémon can enter these regimens, and a stone is one of several possible rewards, not a sure thing. The Fire, Water and Leaf Stone Cups can give their matching stones, and other regimens can give Thunder, Sun, Moon, Shiny, Dusk and Dawn Stones.
  • Spiky rocks on Route 13. Using Hyper Voice or Rock Slide on a spiky rock during a battle can turn up a Thunder, Fire, Water or Leaf Stone.
  • Wild Pokémon. Wild Solrock sometimes hold a Sun Stone and wild Lunatone a Moon Stone. A Pokémon with Pickup can find Sun and Moon Stones at higher levels.

The Mega Stone seller and the $1,000,000 price

The cashier isn’t the only vendor. A man on the shop floor sells the Mega Stones for the two Kanto starters you didn’t take from Professor Sycamore (Sycamore gives you the stone for the one you picked). He sells them one at a time:

  • First stone: the one for the starter that has the type advantage over yours. You can buy it during the main story, before the Elite Four.
  • Second stone: only after you beat the Elite Four and enter the Hall of Fame.

How Lumiose style lowers the price

If your Lumiose style is below 10, he asks $1,000,000. Don’t pay it. Lumiose style is a hidden score from 0 to 255 that goes up with specific things you do in the city: buying in certain shops, eating at its restaurants, getting a haircut, riding a Lumi Cab and so on. Just walking around doesn’t raise it. At 255 the stone costs $10,000, 1% of the top price. If you already have some style when you first talk to him, his first offer will already be lower.

Eight price steps. At maximum style the same stone costs $10,000.

Style is counted per payment, not per item, so buying 50 balls in one go counts once. The cheap, fast method is the Poké Ball Boutique on Autumnal Avenue: buy one Premier Ball at a time, over and over. Each separate payment adds 2. Every Fire, Water or Leaf Stone you buy here also adds 2, and meals add more (up to 5 at Sushi High Roller). You can tell your style is rising when Boutique Couture on Vernal Avenue lets you in (that takes 25). Since the price only ever goes down, it’s best to wait for $10,000 unless you have a lot of spare money and want the stone right away.

Charizardite X or Charizardite Y?

It depends on your game. In Pokémon X he sells Charizardite X, and in Pokémon Y he sells Charizardite Y. This only matters if you didn’t pick Charmander. If you did, Sycamore gives you the Charizardite for your version, and the other one has to come from a player with the other game. Here’s how to Mega Evolve Charizard X once you have the stone.

He won’t restock

Each Mega Stone is sold once per save file. After you buy both, he has nothing left, and they don’t come back later, even if you toss one away. Pick your moment and buy at the price you’re happy with.

Pokémon that evolve with the Fire Stone, Water Stone and Leaf Stone in Pokémon X and Y, and why a Leaf Stone won’t evolve Eevee into Leafeon
Every Pokémon the three shop stones work on in X and Y.

A Leaf Stone won’t give you Leafeon

In Pokémon X and Y, a Leaf Stone does nothing to Eevee. To get Leafeon, level Eevee up near the Moss Rock on Route 20. Glaceon works the same way with the Ice Rock in Frost Cavern. There’s no Ice Stone in X and Y at all. Evolving Eevee with a Leaf Stone only came in much later games, so don’t spend $2,100 on one here for Leafeon.

For Jolteon, you need a Thunder Stone from Routes 10 and 11, not this shop. Pansage, Pansear and Panpour are Central Kalos Nos. 029, 031 and 033 and live in Santalune Forest, so you can catch all three early and evolve them with stones from this shop.

Troubleshooting

  • The shop only has three stones. That’s normal. The list never grows. Use the table above to find the other six.
  • The man only offers one Mega Stone. The second one appears after you enter the Hall of Fame. If you’re already Champion, check whether you’ve bought both. He doesn’t restock.
  • The price is still $1,000,000. Your style is below 10. Make a few separate purchases at the Poké Ball Boutique or eat a meal in a Lumiose restaurant, then check again.
  • I can’t afford the stone. Keep raising your style. The price only goes down, and the stone will still be there.
  • You expected a Thunder Stone here. The Stone Emporium that sells one is in Pokémon Legends: Z-A (see below).
  • The game freezes or won’t resume in Lumiose City. Install the latest update (version 1.5). An early update fixed a bug that stopped saves in parts of Lumiose City from loading. The shop itself is fine.
  • Looking for a Looker Ticket? It’s in the Herboriste next door, after the main story, not in the Stone Emporium.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A on Nintendo Switch is also set in Lumiose City and also has a Stone Emporium, with a completely different list.

Other shops on Vernal Avenue

  • Herboriste sells herbal medicine: Heal Powder ($450), Energy Powder ($500), Energy Root ($800) and Revival Herb ($2,800). Buying here also raises your style.
  • Friseur Furfrou trims Furfrou for $500 and adds new trims at 10 and 50 style.
  • Boutique Couture sells high-end clothes and only lets you in at 25 style.
  • Café Woof is a café. A lady there gives you two Pearl Strings if you show her a Furfrou that has kept the same trim for 15 days.

FAQ

What does the Stone Emporium in Lumiose City sell in X and Y?

The cashier sells the Fire Stone, Water Stone and Leaf Stone for $2,100 each. A man in the shop also sells two Kanto starter Mega Stones, the second one only after the Hall of Fame.

Does the Stone Emporium sell Thunder Stones?

Not in Pokémon X and Y. Pick them up on Routes 10 and 11, or try for more from Psychic Inver on Route 18 and Secret Super Training. The Legends: Z-A Stone Emporium does sell them.

How do I get the Mega Stones cheaper than $1,000,000?

Raise your Lumiose style. Each separate purchase at the Poké Ball Boutique adds 2, so buy one ball at a time; meals, haircuts and stone purchases here help too. The price drops step by step to $10,000 at maximum style (255).

Can I buy the Mega Stones more than once?

No. Each one is sold once per save file and doesn’t restock, even if you toss it away.

Does a Leaf Stone evolve Eevee in Pokémon X and Y?

No. In X and Y, Leafeon comes from leveling Eevee up near the Moss Rock on Route 20.
