Pokémon X Shiny Stone: Route 12 Skiddo Spot and How to Get More

Pokémon X has one Shiny Stone on the ground: ride a Skiddo on Route 12. Get more from Secret Super Training or Psychic Inver. X and Y match. It isn’t a shiny Pokémon.

The only Shiny Stone you can pick up in Pokémon X is a Poké Ball on Route 12, northeast of the Baa de Mer Ranch. Beat Korrina at the Shalour Gym so you can Surf across to the ranch. Ride an awake Skiddo out of the pen, go east over three ledges, get off and climb the stairs. The ball is just west of the top step. No shop in Kalos sells the Shiny Stone. To get another, farm the Secret Super Training regimen An Opening of Lightning-Quick Attacks!, or score 7 to 9 points in Psychic Inver’s daily Inverse Battle on Route 18. Pokémon Y has the same three sources.

Pokémon X Shiny Stone sources: the Route 12 Poké Ball at Baa de Mer Ranch, Secret Super Training and Psychic Inver on Route 18
One Shiny Stone on the ground, and two ways to get more.

This is the Evolution item. It won’t turn a Pokémon shiny, and it isn’t the Light Stone that Reshiram comes from in Black 2 and White 2. No item turns a Pokémon you already have shiny. The Shiny Charm, which you get for completing the National Pokédex, only raises your odds of meeting shiny Pokémon (from about 1 in 4,096 to about 1 in 1,366 in normal encounters).

This page covers Pokémon X and Pokémon Y on Nintendo 3DS and 2DS, versions 1.0 to 1.5. None of the update notes mention item changes. Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun, Moon and Legends: Z-A use different maps, so their Shiny Stone spots don’t apply here.

Psychic Inver, Inverse House on Route 18When Route 18 opens, once a dayRandom: one of ten prizes for a score of 7 to 9

That’s the full list. The Stone Emporium in Lumiose City sells only Fire, Water and Leaf Stones. Pickup can’t find a Shiny Stone either. Its list in X and Y has Sun and Moon Stones, but no Shiny Stone. No wild Pokémon holds one, and no NPC gives one away. If you ever have a spare, shops buy it for $1,050.

The guaranteed Shiny Stone on Route 12

Route 12 (Fourrage Road) runs east from Shalour City to Coumarine City, and the Baa de Mer Ranch sits on the Coumarine half. Water splits the route in two, so you can’t reach the ranch until Korrina gives you the Rumble Badge, which lets you use Surf outside battle. An NPC on Route 12 gives you a Lapras at the same point, so you have a Surf Pokémon even if your team has none.

The Shiny Stone is a normal Poké Ball lying on the ground, not a hidden item. It sits on a raised strip of grass northeast of the ranch. You can only get there on a Skiddo, because the way in crosses three ledges that you can’t climb on foot.

How to reach the Shiny Stone

  1. Surf east from the Shalour City side and land by the ranch house. The girl inside gives you TM45 (Attract) if you want it.
  2. Walk into the big dirt pen and talk to a Skiddo that is awake. A sleeping Skiddo won’t let you ride it.
  3. Ride out through the gap in the pen’s east fence onto the open grass.
  4. Head northeast, then ride east over the three ledges.
  5. At the far east end, press B to get off your Skiddo. You can’t climb stairs, talk to people or pick up items while you’re riding.
  6. Climb the short stairs to the north and walk west. The Poké Ball there is the Shiny Stone.

The ball sits on the raised ledge, west of the stairs.

The ranch has two more Poké Balls with other items. The one south of the ranch (also Skiddo-only) is a Whipped Dream, and the one behind the ranch house (you need Cut) is a Sachet. If you came out with one of those, you went the wrong way. The stone is the one past the three ledges.

Is it in the same place in Pokémon Y?

Yes. Route 12 is the same in both games, and so are Super Training, its prize chances and Inver.

Already used it? How to get another Shiny Stone

The Route 12 stone is gone as soon as you use it, often on Floette, since Flabébé is easy to catch early. If you also want Togekiss or Roserade, you have two repeatable sources, and neither needs the internet.

Secret Super Training: An Opening of Lightning-Quick Attacks!

Super Training is on the Touch Screen from the start of the game. The secret regimens open once one of your Pokémon is Fully Trained, which means it has the maximum 510 effort points. In Super Training, the bar to the right of the stat chart is full and the Pokémon shows the Fully Trained mark. The stat chart itself doesn’t have to be filled. You don’t have to clear every normal regimen first. Once a Pokémon has opened the secret regimens, it keeps them even if you reset its training later.

The secret regimens open one at a time. The Shiny Stone one is the seventh, so you clear these six first:

  1. The Troubles Keep on Coming?! (Aurorus and Tyrantrum)
  2. The Leaf Stone Cup Begins! (Venusaur)
  3. The Fire Stone Cup Begins! (Charizard)
  4. The Water Stone Cup Begins! (Blastoise)
  5. Follow Those Fleeing Goals! (Stunfisk, Thunder Stone)
  6. Watch Out! That’s One Tricky Second Half! (Aegislash, Dusk Stone)

Then comes An Opening of Lightning-Quick Attacks! against a Roserade Balloon Bot (4,800 points). Beat it inside the target time and you get a training bag and a prize. How much time you have left decides which prize list you roll on:

ResultPrize chances
Beat the target timePretty Wing 100%
Beat it by moreSoda Pop 50%, Hard Stone 25%, Stardust 25%
Beat it by the most (top result)Soda Pop 25%, Hard Stone 25%, Stardust 25%, Shiny Stone 25%
Secret Super Training regimen An Opening of Lightning-Quick Attacks in Pokémon X and Y: Roserade Balloon Bot and Shiny Stone prize chances
Only the top result can drop the Shiny Stone, 1 time in 4.

So winning and getting Stardust is normal. Even a perfect run gives the stone just 1 time in 4. Pick a fast Pokémon, fire at the goals the moment they open, and dodge Roserade’s shots, because every hit you take costs points. Then run it again. The regimen name is spelled Lightning-Quick, not “Lighting.”

Psychic Inver’s daily Inverse Battle

The Inverse House is on Route 18, next to the Terminus Cave entrance. Route 18 opens after you beat Team Flare in Geosenge Town. Psychic Inver battles you once a day. In an Inverse Battle the type chart is flipped: super-effective moves become not very effective, the other way around too, and immunities become weaknesses.

After the battle he scores you. Each super-effective hit you land counts +1, and each not-very-effective hit counts −1:

ScorePrize
0Oran Berry
1–3Sitrus Berry
4–6A type-resist Berry (Occa, Passho, Wacan and the rest)
7–9One of: Fire, Water, Leaf, Thunder, Moon, Sun, Shiny, Dusk or Dawn Stone, or an Everstone
10 or moreRare Candy
Psychic Inver Inverse Battle prizes by score on Route 18 in Pokémon X and Y: a score of 7 to 9 gives a random evolution stone, including the Shiny Stone
Stop at 7 to 9 points. Ten or more gives a Rare Candy instead.

If none of your Pokémon faint, he gives you three of the prize, otherwise one. The Shiny Stone is one of ten possible prizes, so this is slower than Super Training, but a clean win can hand you three stones at once. If you keep getting Berries, you aren’t landing enough super-effective hits under the flipped chart. Don’t wind your 3DS clock forward to fight him again. The game notices the change and blocks daily events like this one for 24 hours.

Why you can’t find one anywhere else

  • No shop has it. The Stone Emporium in Lumiose City sells only Fire, Water and Leaf Stones. Other Evolution stones come from the field, Super Training or Inver.
  • Pickup won’t find it. In X and Y, Pickup can find Sun and Moon Stones, not Shiny Stones. Pickup finding Shiny Stones is a Diamond, Pearl and Platinum feature.
  • The Lumiose “Shiny Stone” line isn’t a gift. A woman in Lumiose City says her stone-hunting husband has become “like a Shiny Stone” in her eyes. It’s a joke, and she doesn’t give you anything.
  • Wild Pokémon don’t carry it. No species in X and Y holds a Shiny Stone in the wild.

What the Shiny Stone evolves in X and Y

RoseliaRoseradeRoute 7 grass and flowers (10%) or a Roselia horde there. Budew is in the Route 4 flowers.
TogeticTogekissYou can’t catch Togepi on normal routes. Catch it in a Fairy-type Friend Safari, raise its friendship to 220 and level it up.
MinccinoCinccinoYou can’t catch it on normal routes. Catch it in a Normal-type Friend Safari, or trade for one.
Pokémon that evolve with a Shiny Stone in Pokémon X and Y: Togetic into Togekiss, Roselia into Roserade, Minccino into Cinccino and Floette into Florges
The four Pokémon that evolve with a Shiny Stone in X and Y.

Open the Bag, choose the Shiny Stone and pick the Pokémon. It evolves right away, you can’t cancel with B, and the stone is used up. Giving the stone to a Pokémon to hold does nothing.

Why your Floette won’t evolve

  • It’s still a Flabébé. Flabébé only evolves by level, into Floette at level 19. The stone only works on Floette.
  • You gave it the stone to hold. Use it from the Bag instead.
  • It’s holding an Everstone. In X and Y an Everstone also blocks evolution stones. Take it off, then use the Shiny Stone.
  • It’s AZ’s Eternal Flower Floette. That form has no evolution, and you can’t get it in X or Y anyway. The five flower colours you catch all evolve.

Your Floette keeps its flower colour when it becomes Florges, so catch the colour you want before you spend the stone.

Troubleshooting

  • I can’t get to the ranch. You need Surf. Beat Korrina at the Shalour Gym first.
  • The Skiddo won’t let me ride. It’s asleep. Try another one in the pen.
  • I’m by the ball but can’t pick it up. You’re still on the Skiddo. Press B to get off first.
  • I picked up a Whipped Dream or a Sachet. Wrong ball. The Shiny Stone is northeast, past the three ledges and up the stairs.
  • Super Training has no secret regimens. Pick a Fully Trained Pokémon, one with 510 effort points. Then clear the six secret regimens before the Roserade one.
  • I beat the Roserade regimen and got Stardust. The prize is random, and only the top result can give the stone. Run it again.
  • Inver keeps giving me Berries. You need a score of 7 to 9 with the flipped type chart.
  • Mauville City or a flea market. Those are other games. Mauville is Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and the Shiny Stone you can buy at the Malie City flea market is in Pokémon Sun. See our Sun and Moon evolution stone guide for Alola.

Friend Safari and trading in 2026

Nintendo Network shut down for 3DS games on April 8, 2024. The GTS, Wonder Trade and online trades in X and Y no longer work. Route 12, Super Training and Inver all work offline. Friend Safari still works with friends already on your 3DS friend list, and you can add new ones in person. To trade for a Togepi or Minccino, or to pass a spare Shiny Stone to a friend, trade by local wireless.
