Where to Find a Dusk Stone in Pokémon X (and How to Get More)

The one Dusk Stone you can pick up in Pokémon X is on Terminus Cave B2F, off Route 18. Get more from Secret Super Training, Psychic Inver or a former Team Flare member in Laverre City.

The Dusk Stone you can pick up in Pokémon X is a Poké Ball on Terminus Cave B2F, on Route 18. Route 18 opens after you beat Team Flare at their base in Geosenge Town, so you can grab the stone before the eighth Gym. Take the middle stairs from B1F down to B2F, then head north and west to the far west end of the floor. No shop in Kalos sells Dusk Stones, and Pickup can’t find one. You can get more from Secret Super Training (the Watch Out! That’s One Tricky Second Half! regimen) and from Psychic Inver’s daily Inverse Battle on Route 18. After you enter the Hall of Fame, a former Team Flare member gives you one more in Laverre City, northwest of the Gym. Pokémon Y has the same four sources in the same places.

Where to find a Dusk Stone in Pokémon X and Y: Terminus Cave B2F, Secret Super Training, Psychic Inver on Route 18 and the former Team Flare member in Laverre City
One Dusk Stone lies on the ground in Terminus Cave and one is a post-game gift. Secret Super Training and Inver can give you more.

This page covers Pokémon X and Pokémon Y on Nintendo 3DS and 2DS, versions 1.0 to 1.5. None of the updates changed where items are found. Pokémon Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun, Moon and Legends: Z-A have their own maps and their own stone spots, so their locations don’t apply here.

That’s all of them. The Dusk Stone isn’t sold anywhere: the Stone Emporium in Lumiose City only stocks Fire, Water and Leaf Stones. Pickup can’t find one either. The X and Y Pickup list has Sun and Moon Stones but no Dusk Stone. No wild Pokémon carries one. If you have a spare, any shop buys it for $1,050.

The guaranteed Dusk Stone: Terminus Cave B2F

Terminus Cave is the old coal mine on Route 18, the road between Anistar City and Couriway Town. The Dusk Stone is a normal Poké Ball lying on the ground on B2F, not a hidden item. You don’t need Rock Smash for it. It’s waiting for you on your first trip through, long before the post-game. Only Zygarde’s chamber at the back is closed until you enter the Hall of Fame. An Ace Trainer blocks that path.

When Route 18 opens

You reach Anistar City and its Gym (the seventh) before Route 18 is open. Workers block the gate south of Anistar while the road is under repair. After you beat Lysandre at the Team Flare base in Geosenge Town, the road reopens and you can walk south from Anistar City toward Couriway Town. That makes the cave stone the normal way to get Aegislash before you face Wulfric, the eighth Gym Leader, and the Elite Four.

How to reach the Dusk Stone

  1. Go south from the Anistar City gate onto Route 18. Cross the wooden bridge over the river and follow the old mine tracks to the Terminus Cave entrance. The entrance at the base of the tracks leads to the main cave. The two other cave mouths on Route 18 lead to small side rooms with other items.
  2. On 1F, walk north past the mine cart and take the passage east to the way down to B1F.
  3. On B1F, head for the middle staircase down, roughly in the centre of the floor. The staircase on the far east side also goes to B2F, but it comes out in the wrong part of the floor.
  4. On B2F, walk north from the stairs into the maze of rock ledges.
  5. Follow the open corridor west, then drop south into the far west pocket of the cave. The Poké Ball there is the Dusk Stone. A hidden Iron sits on a stalagmite just west of the maze if you want it too.

Watch out for the Dusk Ball on B1F

B1F hides a Dusk Ball on a small rock past the two ledges on the west branch of the first fork. The name is close and it’s in the right cave, so it’s easy to mistake for the stone. A Dusk Ball is a Poké Ball that works better at night and in caves. The Dusk Stone is one floor lower and sits in a normal, visible Poké Ball. If your Bag’s Items pocket doesn’t show a Dusk Stone after the trip, go back down to B2F.

Getting a Dusk Stone early, or getting a second one

The cave stone is used up the moment you evolve something with it. If you want two Aegislash, or you want a Chandelure and an Aegislash, you need another source. Two of them work whenever you like, and the Super Training one even works before Route 18 opens.

Secret Super Training: Watch Out! That’s One Tricky Second Half!

Super Training is on the Touch Screen from the start of the game. Its secret regimens open once one of your Pokémon is Fully Trained, which means it has the maximum 510 effort points from battles, training bags or regimens. Max out a Pokémon’s total effort values so the training meter on the right fills up, and the secret regimens open. The six stat bars don’t all have to be full. If you later reset that Pokémon’s training, it can still take them.

The secret regimens open one at a time, in this order. Beat each one to unlock the next:

  1. The Troubles Keep on Coming?! (Aurorus and Tyrantrum)
  2. The Leaf Stone Cup Begins! (Venusaur)
  3. The Fire Stone Cup Begins! (Charizard)
  4. The Water Stone Cup Begins! (Blastoise)
  5. Follow Those Fleeing Goals! (Stunfisk, the Thunder Stone regimen)
  6. Watch Out! That’s One Tricky Second Half! (Aegislash, 4,800 points, the Dusk Stone regimen)

When you beat a secret regimen inside its target time, you get a training bag and an item. The faster you finish, the better the prize list:

ResultPrize chances
Beat the target timePretty Wing 100%
Beat it by moreSoda Pop 50%, Hard Stone 25%, Stardust 25%
Beat it by the most (top result)Soda Pop 25%, Hard Stone 25%, Stardust 25%, Dusk Stone 25%
Secret Super Training regimen Watch Out That’s One Tricky Second Half in Pokémon X and Y: Aegislash Balloon Bot and Dusk Stone prize chances
Only the top result can give the Dusk Stone, 1 time in 4.

So beating the regimen and getting Stardust is normal. The stone is only in the top prize list, and even there it’s one of four equal prizes. Use a fast Pokémon with strong Energy Shots, hit the goals on the Aegislash as soon as they appear, and dodge its shots, since each hit costs you points. You can repeat it as many times as you want. This is the only way to get a Dusk Stone before Route 18 opens. If you already have a Fully Trained Pokémon, you can have Aegislash as soon as Honedge evolves into Doublade.

The other stone regimens use the same prize chances, with their own stone in place of the Dusk Stone. If you need a Shiny or Dawn Stone too, it’s the same grind.

Psychic Inver’s daily Inverse Battle

The Inverse House on Route 18 is a few steps from the Terminus Cave entrance. Psychic Inver battles you once a day. In an Inverse Battle every type matchup is flipped: moves that are normally super effective become not very effective, and the other way around. Immunities become weaknesses. His Pokémon are level 55, or level 65 after you enter the Hall of Fame. He picks three of them at random.

After the battle he scores you. Each super-effective hit you land counts +1, and each not-very-effective hit counts −1:

ScorePrize
0Oran Berry
1–3Sitrus Berry
4–6A type-resist Berry (Occa, Passho, Wacan and the rest)
7–9One of: Fire, Water, Leaf, Thunder, Moon, Sun, Shiny, Dusk or Dawn Stone, or an Everstone
10 or moreRare Candy
Psychic Inver Inverse Battle prizes by score on Route 18 in Pokémon X and Y: a score of 7 to 9 gives a random evolution stone, including the Dusk Stone
Aim for exactly 7 to 9 points. Ten or more swaps the stone for a Rare Candy.

If none of your Pokémon faint, he gives you three of the prize, otherwise one. Since the Dusk Stone is one of ten possible prizes in that bracket, it can take a while. Keep a few super-effective hits in reserve and stop at 7 to 9. If you keep getting Berries, you aren’t landing enough super-effective hits under the flipped chart. Remember that Fire moves are not very effective on Grass here. Don’t change your 3DS clock to battle him again. The game notices the change and blocks daily events like this one for 24 hours.

The former Team Flare member in Laverre City (post-game)

After you enter the Hall of Fame, a former Team Flare member shows up northwest of the Laverre Gym. The Gym is the giant tree in the middle of town. He says he’s quitting Team Flare and gives you a Dusk Stone. He gives it once per save file. He isn’t there when you first come through Laverre for the sixth Gym, so don’t search for him then.

Open the Bag, choose the Dusk Stone and pick the Pokémon. The evolution starts right away and can’t be cancelled with B, and the stone is used up. Giving the stone to a Pokémon to hold does nothing.

Why Honedge and Litwick won’t evolve

If the Bag says “It won’t have any effect,” you’re one stage too early. Honedge and Litwick only evolve by level: Honedge into Doublade at level 35, and Litwick into Lampent at level 41. The stone only works on the middle stage, Doublade or Lampent.

Troubleshooting

  • I went to Terminus Cave and came out with a Dusk Ball. That’s the hidden item on B1F. The stone is on B2F, in the far west, in a visible Poké Ball.
  • I can’t get onto Route 18. The workers south of Anistar City leave after you beat Team Flare in Geosenge Town.
  • I can’t find the former Team Flare member in Laverre City. He only appears after you enter the Hall of Fame, and he stands northwest of the Gym.
  • Super Training won’t show the Aegislash regimen. The secret regimens open one at a time. Clear the five before it first, with a Fully Trained Pokémon.
  • I beat the Aegislash regimen and got Stardust. The prize is random. Even the top result only gives the Dusk Stone 1 time in 4, and Stardust is in that prize list too. Run it again.
  • Inver keeps giving me Berries. You need a score of 7 to 9 with the flipped type chart. Ten or more gives a Rare Candy instead.
  • The Stone Emporium doesn’t have it. It never will. It sells only Fire, Water and Leaf Stones.
  • Mauville City, Poni Island or a flea market. Those are other games. Mauville is Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and Poni Island is Sun and Moon. Our Dusk Stone guide for Sun and Moon covers Alola.

Trading for Misdreavus and extra stones in 2026

Nintendo Network shut down for 3DS games on April 8, 2024. The GTS, Wonder Trade and online trades in X and Y no longer work. Everything on this page except trading still works offline: Terminus Cave, Super Training, Inver and the former Team Flare member in Laverre City. To get a Misdreavus, or to hand a spare Dusk Stone to a friend, trade by local wireless with someone in the same room. Friend Safari works with friends already on your 3DS friend list.
