Biggest Wallet in Ocarina of Time 3D: The Giant's Wallet and What It Buys

The biggest wallet in OoT 3D is the Giant's Wallet: 500 Rupees for 30 Gold Skulltula tokens. Wallet sizes, how to get them, and which prices need them.

The biggest wallet is the Giant’s Wallet

The biggest wallet in Ocarina of Time 3D is the Giant’s Wallet. It holds 500 Rupees, and you get it at the House of Skulltula in Kakariko Village once you have 30 Gold Skulltula tokens. The Adult’s Wallet (200 Rupees) comes first, at 10 tokens. There is no Tycoon’s Wallet in this game.

Both upgrades come from the House of Skulltula, at 10 and 30 tokens.

In the game’s own words: “You got a Giant’s Wallet! What a huge wallet! Now you can carry up to 500 Rupees.” Your wallets are on the Gear subscreen.

How to get the Giant’s Wallet

  1. Collect Gold Skulltula tokens. Each Gold Skulltula you kill leaves a token. There are 100 in the game; see all 100 Gold Skulltula locations.
  2. Go to the House of Skulltula. It is in Kakariko Village. The family inside was cursed into spiders, and one of them turns back into a human at 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 100 tokens.
  3. At 10 tokens, take the Adult’s Wallet. Talk to the family member who has turned back: “The curse has been broken! Thank you! Here’s a reward for you!”
  4. At 30 tokens, take the Giant’s Wallet. Come back with 30 and talk to the family member freed at 30 tokens (the one at 20 gives the Shard of Agony instead).

Your tokens are not used up. The family only checks your total, so the same 30 tokens also count toward the 40, 50 and 100 rewards (Bombchus, a Piece of Heart and a Huge Rupee worth 200; the father gives the Huge Rupee again every time you leave and come back). If you show up with 30 tokens and never claimed the 10-token reward, claim both wallet rewards: whichever you claim first gives the Adult’s Wallet, and the other then gives the Giant’s Wallet.

Young or adult Link can claim the wallets. Young Link can reach 30 tokens, but adult Link with the Hookshot gets to many Gold Skulltulas more easily.

Which wallet do you need for what?

The starting wallet stops at 99 Rupees, so anything that costs 100 or more needs an upgrade. Only two things in the whole game cost more than 200.

Only the Zora Tunic and Blue Fire need the Giant’s Wallet.

The Zora shopkeeper points you to the family: “I’m afraid only that very rich family in Kakariko Village can afford this fine garment...” See Magic Bean locations for where the beans go.

You can skip the expensive items

  • King Zora gives you the Zora Tunic for free after you thaw him with Blue Fire.
  • Blue Fire is free in the Ice Cavern; scoop it into an empty bottle.
  • As adult Link, stop Link the Goron rolling in Goron City, then talk to him about Volvagia and the captured Gorons, and he gives you the Goron Tunic.

So the Giant’s Wallet is a comfort upgrade, not a requirement. It is still worth it if you plan to buy Bombchus, keep a stock of Rupees, or sell the Bunny Hood.

Is the Giant’s Wallet worth 30 Gold Skulltulas?

  • The Bunny Hood sale. The Running Man pays enough to fill your wallet, so selling the Bunny Hood (the bunny mask) after the upgrade gets you 500 Rupees instead of 99.
  • No wasted Rupees. Rupees you pick up when your wallet is full are lost; there is no bank in this game. A Huge Rupee is worth 200, more than the starting wallet can hold.
  • The 30-token hunt pays off anyway. The Shard of Agony (20 tokens) and Giant’s Wallet (30) come together, and 50 tokens is a Piece of Heart.

Still stuck at 99 Rupees?

  • You have not been to the house. Wallets are not automatic; you have to talk to the family in the House of Skulltula.
  • Not enough tokens. Your token count is on the Gear subscreen. Each reward needs the full 10 or 30.
  • You talked to the wrong family member. Only the ones who have turned back into humans give rewards. The spiders do not tell you how many more tokens you need, so check your total on the Gear subscreen against 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 100.

Tycoon’s Wallet and other Zelda games

The Tycoon’s Wallet is from Skyward Sword, not Ocarina of Time or Majora’s Mask. In Majora’s Mask the biggest wallet also holds 500 Rupees, and that game adds a bank for the rest. Ocarina of Time 3D has neither a bigger wallet nor a bank. Master Quest uses the same wallets and the same House of Skulltula rewards; only the dungeon Gold Skulltulas move.
