Puzzle 107 is Toppings Up! 3, a 50-picarat Flip puzzle that Artie gives you in Montsarton Gallery in Monte d'Or, in Chapter 7. The clumsy chef has mangled another eight-slice pizza, and some of the slices have landed face down. The cheese is so sticky that every slice you flip turns its two neighbors over with it. Your job is to get the whole pizza face up again.
This page covers story Puzzle 107 in Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, the 3DS game (US and UK English). The pizza and the answer are the same in the US and UK English versions, and the UK version calls the puzzle Toppings Up! Part 3; quotes use the North American text. If you're after Daily Puzzle 107 or Puzzle 107 from another Layton game, see Wrong Puzzle 107? below.

The puzzle reads: "Our maladroit chef has mangled another pizza, and this one's a real cheesy mess... He's trying to get it all face up again, but this cheese topping is especially sticky, and every time he flips a slice, the adjacent slices turn over with it. Can you help flip the slices so that the whole pizza faces up again and is restored to its mouthwatering glory?" The objective bar says "Flip the pizza face up!"
There's no Submit button. The puzzle ends by itself as soon as every slice is face up.
How the pizza works
The top screen shows the pizza from above, cut into eight slices, with a spatula under one slice. At the start, four slices are face down: the top slice on the left, and the three slices that run down the right-hand side from just below the top. The other four are face up. The touch screen shows a pizza wheel with a handle on its rim.
- Pick a slice. Slide the stylus around the wheel on the touch screen. The spatula follows the handle from slice to slice.
- Flip it. Lift the stylus, and the slice above the spatula flips over.
- Neighbors flip too. The two slices on both sides of the one you pick turn over with it, so every flip turns three slices.
- Start over. Restart puts the pizza back the way it started.

The steps on this page name slices by clock positions, as if the pizza were a clock face with 12 at the top. At the start, the slices from 10:30 to 12 and from 1:30 round to 6 are face down, and the slices from 12 to 1:30 and from 6 round to 10:30 are face up.
Puzzle names
| Version | Puzzle name |
|---|---|
| North America | Toppings Up! 3 |
| UK | Toppings Up! Part 3 |
| Japanese | 凸凹ピザ3 (Dekoboko Piza 3, "bumpy pizza 3") |
The UK text has a few small wording differences, such as "mouth-watering" in the question and "flip all the slices up" in the hints. The puzzle giver's name changes too: Artie in the US version, Beaufort in the UK version.
Wrong Puzzle 107?
- Daily Puzzle 107 is Sweets 03, from the Sweet Truth set.
- The other pizza puzzles are different pizzas from the same gallery: Puzzle 046, Toppings Up!, in Chapter 3, and Puzzle 069, Toppings Up! 2, in Chapter 5. They start with different slices face down, so this page's flips won't work there.
- Puzzle 106, Confusion Cubed, is the puzzle before this one, in the Merchant District. If yours has six maze panels to fold into a cube, that's the one you've got.
- Puzzle 108, Balls and Boxes, is the next puzzle, in Carnival Arcade. If yours has a row of numbered boxes and a ball, that's the one you've got.
- Puzzle 107 in another Layton game is a different puzzle. If yours doesn't show a pizza with slices face down, you're in the wrong game.
Where you find it
Chapter 7 opens on the fourth day of the investigation in Monte d'Or. Go to Montsarton Gallery and talk to Artie, who stands between the statues in front of the far archway, eating pizza again.
Artie sighs, "Mmm... There's really nothing better than the taste of melted camembert cheese. Looking at art while you eat pizza makes the art even better! Look at how this cheese stretches the metaphor!" Luke asks, "You don't touch the art when your hands are all greasy, do you?" Artie replies, "Art is for looking at. Pizza is for eating." Then he says, "Speaking of pizza, this puzzle has me stumped. My cheese will harden if I don't solve it soon!" and the puzzle starts.

Montsarton Gallery has six hint coins. Three are in the normal view of the hall. They're at the hand of the statue on the left, on the stairs and at the light on the right. The other three are in the zoomed-in view of the left archway; tap the archway on the left of the hall to zoom in. There they're at the top of the pillar on the left, and behind and in front of the small painting.
Each coin can be collected only once, so if you picked them up in Chapter 3, when you came here for Puzzles 045 and 046, they're already gone.
You don't have to solve it to move on. Artie keeps offering it for the rest of Chapter 7 and after the story ends.
When the pizza won't come right
- You flipped the slice from 3 to 4:30 first. That turns the three face-down slices on the right up in one go, but it leaves the slice from 10:30 to 12 face down on its own, and a single face-down slice takes five more flips to fix. Tap Restart and read Hint 1 below.
- A slice you fixed went back down. Every flip turns the two neighbors as well. Plan all the flips from the starting pizza.
- The spatula is on the wrong slice. The slice that flips is the one the spatula is under when you lift the stylus. Slide around the wheel until the handle points at the slice you want.
- You can't find the puzzle. Talk to Artie in Montsarton Gallery any time in Chapter 7.
Hints, one at a time
These are the game's own hints, word for word from the North American version and in the same order. Open only the next one you need. In the game, Hints 1 to 3 cost one hint coin each and the Super Hint costs two.
Hint 1: how many moves
You can flip the entire pizza face up in just four moves. See if you can work out how. Good luck!
Hint 2: the first flip
There are several methods of doing this, but here's the quickest: start by flipping the slice closest to the top on the left-hand side. What comes next?
Hint 3: the second flip
The next slice to flip is the one closest to the bottom on the left-hand side.
You can flip up all the slices in two more moves. Have you worked it out yet?
Super Hint: the third flip
Following the previous hint, flip the second slice down on the left-hand side. Do you see what the last move should be now?
Answer and full solution
The answer below gives all four flips in order, shows the pizza after each one and clears up the Super Hint's wording. Open it when you're ready.
Show the answer
Answer: flip the slices from 10:30 to 12, from 6 to 7:30, from 7:30 to 9 and from 1:30 to 3. Those four flips turn the whole pizza face up. They work in any order, and no other set of four flips does the job. The steps below follow the order the hints use.
Step by step:
- 10:30 to 12. Put the spatula under the top slice on the left, from 10:30 to 12, and flip. That slice comes up, and the face-up slices on either side, from 9 to 10:30 and from 12 to 1:30, go down. Now the slice from 9 to 10:30 and the four slices from 12 round to 6 are face down.
- 6 to 7:30. Flip the bottom slice on the left, from 6 to 7:30. The slice from 4:30 to 6 comes up, and the slices from 6 to 9 go down. Now two groups of three are face down: from 12 round to 4:30, and from 6 round to 10:30.
- 7:30 to 9. Flip the middle slice of the left-hand group, from 7:30 to 9. All three slices from 6 to 10:30 come up, and the left half is face up.
- 1:30 to 3. Flip the middle slice of the right-hand group, from 1:30 to 3. The slices from 12 to 4:30 come up, and the whole pizza is face up.

About the Super Hint: it says to flip "the second slice down on the left-hand side." After the first two flips, three slices on the left are face down, from 6 round to 10:30, and the hint means the middle one of those, from 7:30 to 9. It sits just above the slice you flipped for Hint 3. If you count from the top of the pizza instead and flip 9 to 10:30, five slices end up face down.

The game confirms it: "Correct! One scrumptious pepperoni pizza coming up! This pizza puzzle can be solved in just a few moves. How many did it take you?"
If it still doesn't work out:
- Five slices are face down after three flips. You flipped 9 to 10:30 instead of 7:30 to 9 for the third flip. Restart and follow the four steps above.
- You flipped one of the four slices twice. The second flip cancels the first. Restart and flip each of the four slices once.
- The wrong slice flipped. Check where the spatula is before you lift the stylus.
Picarats, hints and hint coins
Toppings Up! 3 shows 50 picarats when it starts. This puzzle can't be failed. When you talk to Artie again after quitting, he says, "I really need to know the answer before my cheese gets cold." before the puzzle starts again.
Hints cost hint coins, not picarats. Hints 1 to 3 cost one hint coin each and the Super Hint costs two, five in total. The hints on this page are free to open.
Does it unlock anything?
It doesn't give you an item. You get the picarats, and the puzzle counts toward your total.
Versions
- Nintendo 3DS family: this page covers the 3DS game. You move the spatula with the wheel on the touch screen, and the top screen shows the pizza.
- US and UK English versions: same pizza, same answer. The UK name is Toppings Up! Part 3. The UK text differs only in small details of wording.
The scene around the puzzle
If you quit the puzzle, Artie says, "The real conundrum is why I'm distracted by a puzzle when I've got pizza and art to keep me busy!"
When it's solved, Artie says, "Knowing the answer makes this pizza taste even better somehow. Thank you!" Luke whispers, "Why do they let him eat that in here?" and Layton answers, "Maybe recent events aren't the only reason why the museum has been empty."
