The Amulet Coin in Pokémon X and Y is an item ball on the floor in front of the fireplace in the Parfum Palace library, the first room off the western staircase on the second floor. It isn’t out in the gardens and it isn’t on the ground floor. Give it to a Pokémon and you get double prize money from any Trainer battle that Pokémon takes part in, even if it only comes out for one turn. There’s only one in the game. Pickup won’t find another, no Pokémon carries one, and the Battle Maison doesn’t sell one. Luck Incense from the incense shop in Coumarine City gives the same 2× prize money, but it doesn’t stack with the coin. The palace, the room and the item are identical in Pokémon Y.

Where to get the Amulet Coin in Pokémon X and Y
Parfum Palace stands at the north end of Route 6 (Palais Lane), the tree-lined avenue that branches off the east end of Route 7. You can go there as soon as Route 6 is open, before the Cyllage City Gym. The coin is indoors, on the second floor. You can also open the library on the interactive Kalos map.
- Walk up Route 6 to the palace gate and pay the butler $1,000 (first visit only). If you’re short, he lets you in anyway.
- Go through the front doors. Inside the entrance hall, turn left and follow the long hallway all the way to the western end.
- Climb the staircase in the north-west corner up to the second floor.
- At the top, walk along the hallway and take the first door on the north wall. That’s the library.
- Go straight up to the fireplace at the back of the room and pick up the item ball on the floor in front of it.

The ground floor: go left to the western staircase
The ground floor is one long hallway shaped like a wide U, with a staircase at each end. Take the western one, because the library is the room closest to it. The glass door in the middle of the north wall goes out to the gardens, and the coin isn’t out there.

The second floor: first door on the left wing
The western staircase brings you up in the corner of the west wing. Two doors open off the hallway in front of you. The first one, closest to the stairs, is the library. The second is a separate room, and the hallway beyond it carries on to the rest of the second floor.

Another visitor may be standing in the room. You don’t need to talk to anyone. Just walk up to the fireplace.
It isn’t in the gardens or on the ground floor
The gardens behind the palace have their own item balls, and you’ll probably pick them up while you chase the runaway Furfrou: an Antidote, a Revive, a Super Potion, a Guard Spec. and HM01 Cut, plus a hidden Pretty Wing, X Sp. Atk and Rare Candy. There’s an Ether near the entrance as well. None of them is the Amulet Coin. If you’ve searched the hedge maze twice and found nothing, go back inside and upstairs.
Do you have to pay $1,000?
The entrance fee is $1,000 on your first visit. If you can’t afford it, the butler lets you in anyway, and the story needs you inside: this is where you borrow the Poké Flute for the Snorlax on Route 7. You don’t need to pay again on later visits. One of the butler’s later lines confirms it: “It’s been decided that we will no longer charge an entrance fee.” So money never locks you out of the coin. If you missed it on that visit, the item ball stays there and you can come back for it at any point.
Pokémon Y is the same
X and Y share the palace maps, the item ball and the item itself. Nothing about this changes between the two versions.
Why the Amulet Coin isn’t doubling your money
If the money isn’t doubling, check these first:
- The holder never came out. The coin only counts if the Pokémon holding it appears in the battle at least once. Sitting in the party isn’t enough. The easy fix is to give it to your lead. A Pokémon that comes out and faints, or that you switch out on the first turn, still counts.
- It was a wild battle. Wild battles don’t pay prize money, so there’s nothing to double.
- It was the Battle Maison. The Maison pays Battle Points, not money. The coin does nothing there.
- You’re thinking of the Exp. Share. The Exp. Share is a Key Item you switch on in the Bag and it affects your whole party. The Amulet Coin is a normal held item and it only does anything for the Pokémon holding it.
- You wanted more Exp., not money. The Lucky Egg is the Exp. item, at 1.5× Exp. The coin is the money one, at 2× prize money.
What the Amulet Coin actually does
The Bag says it “doubles any prize money received if the holding Pokémon joins in a battle.” It also doubles the money picked up after Pay Day. It has no effect in battle and doesn’t touch Exp., friendship or items. The money is paid out once, when you beat the Trainer. It doesn’t matter how many turns the holder spent on the field.
The best time to grab it is early. Every story Trainer between Route 6 and the Pokémon League pays twice as much with the coin on your lead, and the extra cash pays for Poké Balls, Potions, Mega Stones at the Stone Emporium and clothes for the boutiques. After the Hall of Fame, keep it on whatever you lead with in the Battle Chateau and when you battle the Elite Four again.
Amulet Coin vs Luck Incense
Luck Incense is a different item, but for prize money it works exactly like the coin: the holder doubles the payout from any Trainer battle it takes part in. Once you reach Coumarine City you can buy as many as you like at the incense shop for $9,600 each, and it sells back for $4,800. It also has a use the coin doesn’t: at the Day Care, if either parent holds Luck Incense in a pairing that would give a Chansey Egg, you get a Happiny Egg instead.

| Amulet Coin | Luck Incense | |
|---|---|---|
| Prize money | 2× from a Trainer battle if the holder took part | The same |
| Other use | None | Breeding: a Chansey Egg becomes a Happiny Egg |
| How to get it | One item ball, Parfum Palace library | Incense shop, Coumarine City |
| Price | Not sold | $9,600 |
| Sells for | $50 | $4,800 |
| Copies | One | As many as you can pay for |
Two Pokémon holding the coin and the incense still earn 2×, not 4×, and so do two Luck Incenses. So the incense isn’t a second multiplier. It just means a different Pokémon can carry the bonus, which helps when you rotate your lead or want the coin on one team and the incense on another.
How the money boosts actually stack
The coin is one of four prize money boosts in X and Y, and they multiply each other rather than adding up. That’s why “Amulet Coin, O-Power and Happy Hour” comes out at 12×, not 6×. The starting figure is the Trainer’s base payout: the Trainer class’s base rate times the level of the last Pokémon in their party. The Champion, for example, pays $16,320 before any boost (see the Champion page).

| Boost | Multiplier | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Amulet Coin or Luck Incense | 2× (only one counts) | Parfum Palace library, or the Coumarine incense shop |
| Prize Money Power (O-Power) | 1.5× / 2× / 3× at Lv. 1 / 2 / 3 | Mr. Bonding in Hotel Cyllage |
| Happy Hour (move) | 2× | Event Pokémon only |
| Gold Writ of Invitation | 1.5× | Battle Chateau, $100,000 from Earl or Countess rank, Chateau battles only |
| Combination | Total |
|---|---|
| Amulet Coin | 2× |
| Amulet Coin + Prize Money Power Lv. 3 | 6× |
| Amulet Coin + Happy Hour | 4× |
| Amulet Coin + Prize Money Power Lv. 3 + Happy Hour | 12× |
| All of the above + Gold Writ of Invitation in the Battle Chateau | 18× |
Prize Money Power at Hotel Cyllage
Mr. Bonding, the O-Power man, is in Hotel Cyllage in Cyllage City, the same hotel where you’re given TM44 Rest and TM88 Sleep Talk (see the TM locations list). Talk to him and he gives you Prize Money Power. Activate it from the PSS on the bottom screen before a fight. Each use lasts three minutes, so switch it on just before a run of Trainers or a set of Chateau battles. Lv. 1 gives 1.5×, Lv. 2 gives 2× and Lv. 3 gives 3×.
Happy Hour is an event move
Happy Hour doubles the prize money from the battle it’s used in. No Pokémon in X and Y can learn it by level, TM or tutor. It only came on a few event Pokémon, such as the PGL Delibird and the Happy Meal Meowth. Those were past distributions, not a way to get the move today. To get it now, you first need a Pokémon that already knows it, usually through a trade. From there a Smeargle can copy it for good: put both in your party, start an ordinary in-game double battle, have the event Pokémon use Happy Hour, and then have Smeargle use Sketch on its partner. Sketching in a link battle doesn’t work, because moves copied there aren’t kept after the battle. On a fresh cartridge in 2026, plan around the 6× from the coin and O-Power instead.
The Gold Writ of Invitation in the Battle Chateau
Once you reach Earl or Countess rank, the lady by the front door of the Battle Chateau on Route 7 issues a Gold Writ of Invitation for $100,000. The Gold Writ raises Chateau winnings by 50% until midnight, when every writ expires. It only pays off if you spend a long session there, and the coin on your lead doubles everything on top of it. Grand Duchess Diantha under a Black Writ of Challenge pays $19,200 before any boost, so fully stacked, a single win against her can pay out several hundred thousand dollars.
You can’t get a second Amulet Coin
- Pickup: the X and Y Pickup table doesn’t include the Amulet Coin at any level.
- Wild Pokémon: no species carries it as a held item, and that includes Meowth.
- Battle Maison: the BP shop doesn’t sell it. See the Battle Maison page for what it does sell.
- Shops and gifts: no Poké Mart or NPC gives one. The closest thing you can buy is Luck Incense, which gives the same prize money bonus.
If you lose track of it, look in the Bag under Items, then check every party and Box Pokémon’s held item.
Not from X and Y: Legends: Z-A, Scarlet and Violet, GO
Search results for “Amulet Coin” often mix in other games:
- Pokémon Legends: Z-A is also set in Lumiose City, but it has no Amulet Coin you can get. Its money item is the Gold Canari Plush, which you trade Colorful Screws for outside Racine Construction. It comes in three levels. According to Serebii’s item data, Lv. 1 multiplies prize money by 1.15×, Lv. 2 by about 1.3× and Lv. 3 by 1.5×.
- Sun and Moon, Sword and Shield, Scarlet and Violet and other later games put the coin in different places. Their item data list a sell price but no buy price: $5,000 in Sun and Moon and in Sword and Shield, and $7,500 in Scarlet and Violet. In X and Y it sells for $50, and no shop sells it.
- Pokémon GO has no held items, so there is no Amulet Coin.
Amulet Coin in Pokémon X and Y: FAQ
Where is the Amulet Coin in Pokémon X?
In Parfum Palace at the top of Route 6. Go left inside, up the western staircase, into the first door on the second floor (the library), and pick it up in front of the fireplace.
Is the Amulet Coin in the Parfum Palace garden?
No. The garden has an Antidote, a Revive, a Super Potion, a Guard Spec., HM01 Cut and a few hidden items. The coin is inside, on the second floor.
Does the Amulet Coin work if my Pokémon faints?
Yes. It only needs to have appeared in the battle once. A holder that faints or gets switched out still doubles the money.
Do Amulet Coin and Luck Incense stack?
No. They give the same prize money doubling, and it only counts once, so holding both, or two of either, is still 2×.
Is Amulet Coin with Happy Hour and O-Power 6× or 12×?
12×. The boosts multiply: 2 from the coin, 2 from Happy Hour and 3 from Prize Money Power Lv. 3. Add the Gold Writ of Invitation in the Battle Chateau and it’s 18×.
Can I buy another Amulet Coin in Pokémon X and Y?
Not the coin itself. Luck Incense gives the same 2× prize money and costs $9,600 at the incense shop in Coumarine City.
Does Pickup give Amulet Coins in X and Y?
No. It isn’t on the X and Y Pickup table.
Does the Amulet Coin work in the Battle Maison?
No. The Maison pays Battle Points instead of money. Use it in the Battle Chateau instead, where every win pays prize money.
Is the Amulet Coin in a different place in Pokémon Y?
No. It’s in the same library room in both versions.
Is there an Amulet Coin in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
Not one you can get. Z-A uses the Gold Canari Plush for extra money instead.
